loud aftermarket shifter? please help.

ok, so the tranny swap is done.
Everything is working ok, however.. there is a loud as noise coming from what seems to be an aftermarket triax shifter mosly on 5th gear only when i am stepping on the gas. it goes away when i am coasting.
could it be something other than the shifter? please let me know before i decided to pull the stock shifter back on since that will be a pain in the ass given that this is a tremec 3550 and it has 6 bolts.
Thanks.

If it's a kinda of whining sound...welcome to the manual transmission world. They do that with high quality aftermarket shifters. It's probably normal and it will make some noise in every gear. You may only be noticing it in 5th.

My Tri-Ax does it in my 90 GT and my UPR does it in my 98 GT. Aftermarket shifters make noise. It's a carrecteristic of the lack of rubber bushings.

Can you make it stop by playing with the shifter handle? It may just need an adjustment.. your upper stop bolt may be touching the handle. If that's the case just back it out like 1/4 turn and you should be fine.

Yep - some more vibration makes it to you because of the shifter design and the fact that you dont have the rubber isolator in the handle anymore.

If you lug in 5th, the handle will vibrate.

good luck.

From your description (I'm taking it literally - "vibration") then I'm saying it is tranny related...

If your adjustments are good in the other gears (stop bolts) then 5th shouldn't be a problem. It would grind and the car wouldn't go most likely so I don't think that is your problem personally...but that is just my thinking???
