The pump is easy to replace. Getting access to it can be a little tricky, especially if you have power steering. One of the easier jobs tho.

However, I've never seen/heard a loud mechanical pump. Are you sure that the noise is coming from your pump?

well it's definitely coming from the rear/trunk area. i don't think its the motor for the power radio antenna, and i think the pump is the only other thing back there, i could be mistaken though.

an electric fuel pump would omit the mechanical fuel bump, which is on the driver side of the engine block. in it's place would be a fuel pump blockoff plate.

it's a rather loud hum, it can be heard inside the car when the engine isn't on.

if it's supposed to be loud, then great!

it sounds about right, as long as it's not making a rattling sound or squeaking or something you should be fine. The reason it's louder than on most cars is that most use internal pumps and the sound is muffled by the gas.

Hi Bud,
A loud electric pump is not unusual. There are pumps that are less noisier than others, though. The key is in it's consistent behavior. Hearing the "hum" of pump after making the "first key turn" is not unusual. Depending on your engine's muffs you may not hear it at all while running.
How long have you owned this car?

yeah it's pretty much a constant sound, and i can't really hear much over the sound of the V8 so im not sure about the sound when it's being driven.

and i've owned it for a couple weeks now.

OK. You might consider, crawling underneath or wait for an oil change interval, and see if the isolation bumpers are in place. These are little rubber washers on the mounting bolts to reduce vibration transmission to the body.
Happy Motoring!
