low compression

ok another quick update, just threw a code and now it says cylinder 1 misfire. so since I switched the coil packs would that be the reason since the misfire moved?

yeah.. the coil pack is your problem then.. I just looked at the diagram.. what was number 4 is where the number 1 wire will go when you swap them so replace that coilpack and your car should be fixed..

Be sure to update us on this..

cool, i just got two new duralast ones from autozone. i drove the car down the street earlier, and had it idle for about 20 mins do you think fuel got into the fresh oil? and do you think the cylinder 1 got fuel wash too?

Damn man, you deserve an award... you could have just saved him some serious money...:nice:

Pretty sweet to have a Ford tech on the boards to help everyone out.

As long as the oil looks and smells normal you should be fine, I doubt you ran it very long misfiring like that. You might have to clean the number 1 plug and reinstall it.

so how does it run with the new coils?

i have the new coils in, and it runs smoother than the day i first bought it lol. I highly doubt its going to throw a code because its running so smooth. So yea thanks again man, I was so close to having the engine rebuilt for no reason.

Man, think how pissed youd be after they rebuilt the engine and the misfire was still there cause they used the same bad coil pack...:jaw:

Wow, I would come out swinging... lol.

OT but this is one reason i stay around here... if anyone with experience leaves the site and moves off to the elite sites, or part spacific sites, then there would be a lot of unhappy mustang owners with nowhere to turn. yeah it sucks losing experienced people that can help, people like SVT around here help a load of people daily. Granted i cant help with much, but i wont be leaving so i can repay what i have gleaned. good feeling.

Nice on SVT.

I just went through the same thing (No 6 misfire.) with my Expedition. I swapped plugs and wire and seems to have taken care of the problem. Of course the misfire has been there a while so I'm hoping it stays right. Good info here if I have to run down a gremlin. With 196K miles I don't expect much but this thing still runs pretty good.

You should be fine now, once it's runnign right you don't have to worry about the effects of fuel wash, but to be sure check the oil and make sure it's not loaded with fuel

It makes me wonder what the mechanics you took your car to actually tested. As I said previously, the compression on the cylinder in question would have to be very very low in order to be too low not to fire. If they would have at least discovered the coil pak issue [an ignition test should have been one of the very first things to perform] and then still could not have been able get that cylinder to fire, then at least one could perhaps blame fuel wash but they didn't even know there was a problem with the coil pak.
That is precisely why I had suggested checking that cylinder for compression, if it was less than 50psi then there would be no point in checking anything else, if it was less than the others but still acceptable, then the problem is with the ignition and fuel wash is causing the lower compression.

I agree 100 percent. I can't speak for the rebuilding and machine shops but there is a lot of morons and hacks in general repair both at the dealers and the private shops. Many techs just don't have the skill or don't care to spend the time.

Not to mention the 1500 smakers they collect.

this is why I am very skeptical about having other people working on my car unless I know them well or have heard lots of positive testimonials.

Preach on. Thats why I want to go to automotive tech school. So I can do everything myself, and work at a shop or dealership, and not rip people off...:nonono:

I personally have not had any issues with machine shops but, like you, I've seen alot of very poor work come from engine rebuilders, dealers and private shops.:nonono:
