Low idle after jump start

Thank you in advance for you help.

My daughter has a stock 2002 w/ a V6. Her battery died while I was out of town and a good samaritan tried to jump the car with one of those self contained units. The car started but died when put into gear. I had it towed home where I replaced the battery.

Now it has a lower than normal idle and has died at stop signs. I was planning on cleaning the IAC with carb cleaner but have just learned the issue began with the "jump".

Thank you,
Brian

How to trouble shoot IAC idle problems

After a battery is disconnected (or run down), the PCM forgets the idle trim values. It is normal for the drivability to be poor while the PCM re-learns new idle trim values.

Try this. Allow the car to idle for a couple of minutes fully warmed up, no AC, foot on the brake.

Repeat with the AC on.

This should speed up the idle trim re-learning.

Don't clean the IAC with a black vent.

Thanks for the info. I followed your instructions and it is holding about 700~ RPM w/ & w/o the A/C. It is compensating for the A/C being turned on by adjusting the idle. Her driving habits are very local so I am going to drive it to work for a few days. If the problem persists I will begin the trouble shooting outlined in your link.
