Lowering Seat Pans for Procar seats

The only complaint i hear from people reguarding the Procar seats (Rally and Elite) is that they sit a little high. If i decide to lower my seat pan, now is the time to do it since the car is currently gutted. My question is how much have you guys lowered the pan to get the proper ride height for these seats? 1 inch? more? Thanks.

You literally want as much as you can get. I have to lean my seat waaaay back at the dragstrip b/c the helmet is well into the headliner.

I've heard if you use the stock tracks instead of the Scat ones, that will buy a little more too. I haven't tried that.

Splitting the seat pan height in half and rewelding will drop the seat about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2". If you eventually want to wear a helmet, you will probably want to drop the seat pan even further.

If you are tall, you might also consider moving the seat tracks back a couple of inches.

There was an article on Mustangs plus website at one time on how to do this. I think the net net of it was to cut them out and split them like Dennis112 said. I sold my seats mainly because of the height and I just plain like the look of low back buckets. My car is only a weekender / race car so I went with Kirkey Vintage road race seats. Not installed yet but for an 11lb piece of aluminum they are super comfy and durable as hell.

Jester . . . I'm going to try and have pictures of my setup this weekend. I think we got about 1.5-1.75 inches lower.

The cage is supposedly about done, too.

In both my classics I took the seat pan out and moved my seats back 3 inchs works great if your over 6 ft.

Does moving your seat pans back mess up the carpet fitment? How far did you move yours back?
I am trying to figure out if I should move the pns back while I have them out for new seats or extend the seat tracks. I dont know if the new tracks that come with the seats will be able to be modified like the originals but I will see when I get them!

thanks!

I was concerned about that too (plus the fact that the under car seat belt holes will no longer line up) and decided to do the basic pan drop and then put it back into the original location. I made 2" track extenders that gave me plenty of room for my 6'3" frame in a 65'.

Here are some of the notes and pics that I made with the intention of a webpage that never got finished:

Ya I saved the site in favsbut ill have the pans apart for lowering them so it would be easier to just move them back. But I dont really want to make the carpet all messed up. also the seats I'm getting come with tracks so I dont know if they will be as easily modified but I could work something out i'm sure.

Ya any body who has moved their pans back, let me know if it messed the carpet fitment up! Thanks
