Ls1 Gto's

Really? I would expect to hear "would edge out my car at the race track", but I think "walking me" is a little exagerrated. Like I've stated, I've ran 2 LS1 Goats before. I don't know what mods they had or whether or not they were A4 or M6. I ran 1 from low speeds (10mph up to about 60 or so) a few times and beat him pretty bad. The 2nd one involved highway runs (50-100) and although closer, I still had a consistant 1/2 car to 1 car on him around 100. Wouldn't those higher speed runs be more representative of track outcomes (since the LS1 is in its powerband and my gears really don't come into play that much)?

Anyway, as far as track times are concerned, I think this article sums it up pretty well....

This is a Pontiac-based performance mag and they compare it to a bone stock Mach 1 (I believe my car is on par with a stock Mach, if not quicker). They had Evan Smith driving both cars, and I think everyone is fairly aware of his driving skills in both GM's and Fords. He could only get a best of 13.52 out of the GTO and a 13.51 out of the Mach. Not quite "walking" the Ford

You beat me to posting that article.

And no, your car is not going to get walked by a bone stock LS1 GTO. Beaten? Maybe, but I even doubt that.

I have seen LOTS of them run at the track before, and contrary to what GM/GTO guys may think, they don't run very well at all in the 1/4 for the average person. In all my trips to the track, I think I've seen ONE GTO in the 12s (and it was a full bolt-on, cammed LS2) and ONE in the 11s (and it was a heads/cam/supercharged LS1). The VAST majority of GTOs are in the mid-high 13s. LS1s can often be seen making 14 second passes. Can you take out 200 pounds, throw some slicks & skinnies on, run in 40 degree weather at a nice track like ATCO or MIR, and make some decent passes? Sure. But times from those types of runs are not the norm.

And about the guys on GM forums claiming to run 13.0s on stock LS1 GTOs.....I'm not saying that it can't be done. But I am gonna raise the BS flag when there are no timeslips or backups of the runs. Candy-wrapper passes happen more often than people think....

I think the LS1 GTO will have the advantage on top end... as in over 100mph, say from a high roll race.

Even in the heavier GTO I think the top end pull of the LS would be enough to come around a comparable 2v at that point.

If it requires triple digits for one car to start "pulling" another (no matter how far back they already are), I don't consider it faster than the other. That's just me though.

Nightfire, if you expand your search to Houston, I can go check out cars in person for you. I have some time off this summer and don't mind. You can fly in on a cheap southwest flight, and drive back the same day.

They seem like nice cars, I test drove one a few years back that had at least exhaust on it (ls1 version). Yeah I liked the interior and the ride was definitely better, but power wise my bolt on 2v would have it for lunch in th 1/8. Could of been the car, coulda been me, who knows but I like pontiacs anyway. Owned a 98, 04 Grand prix GTP and they hauled the mail for a grocerery getters, beat some NPI stangs in both those cars at the track
