LX Tailights on a GT

The taillight housings have all been pretty much the same since 1985 I think. At least to 86 as I just installed 86GT's made into Cloned stripped SVO's onto my 1990. The mounting bolts are in the same places throughout the years.

You'll have to get some sylicon sealer, pry out the old lenses, clean up the inside of the housing, spread some new sealer into the spaces and pop the new lenses on. I'd take the housing of the car first though and let the lenses and housing bond overnight and put it back on the next day to ensure a proper setting and fit.

One of my 86GT lenses was lose at the bottom so I had take the lense and housing off the car, pry the lenses of, lay a new bead of sylicon over the existing buytl in the lenses and put it all back together. Now it's all nice and secure.

I bought a set of OEM Ford tails, do NOT buy the reproduction KSR tails, they have bad quality. Here is a pic for reference.

See how the reflector has half circles in it, not cool. :notnice:

The LX tails fit just fine, be sure and use some silicone sealer along with the black gooey strip, water gets in there if you don't.

Take off the housing, sand down the reflective area, and spray with duplicolor "chrome" spray paint. Mine light up very bright now. Worth the extra work.

By the way my car is a GT w/the ghetto band-aid light covers.

Ghetto band-aid lenses are most often times called "Cheese Graters" I like them both, but my car looks cleaner with LX tails.

GT tails are one of those things that should've happened. LX tails are a must for GTs imo. Here's a few more SHOULDA NEVER HAPPENED things...

speed density
7.5" rears
4 luggers
Duraspark ignition
EZ Twist Driver's seat
Backseats for hatches (lol, j/k)

But then again I guess you could say these are things that keep us busy/poor lol.

I love the Cobra Lens', when I get the chance those are going on my GT.
You do know that the cobra lenses when installed sit recessed. So the hatch sticks out like 1 inch over the taillight. And you can also see the 1 inch of bumper no longer covered that was covered by the lx lenses. The cobra lenses and 85-86 lenses are flat compared to the bubbly shape of the lx ones hence why the difference in how recessed they sit. I used to have the 86 lenses but didnt like that you could see where the bumper was faded from teh sun and not faded from where the new lenses didnt cover so i took them off. Just warning you so u know what to expect. If u look at the 93 cobras and cobra R's u can see that the lights sit recessed a bit also.

Heres and OOOOOOOLD pic of how it used to look like.
