MAC Cold Air intake question

I bought a MAC Cold air intake and I'm having a hell of a time installing it. The problem I'm having is with the rubber ring that goes on the fenderwell cover plate. With the ring installed, I cant get the pipe to fit through. I've used grease and vaseline and have also started shaving some rubber off the ring to no avail. It seems like the ring is 1/16" of an inch to small and MAC insists that it is the correct parts and you have to work it in.

Does anyone have any advise on what they did to get it to fit.

You didn't notice any clanking noise or metal wear?

I took a rubber hose and cut on side of it and lined the hole.

I had no problems at all with mine... been on and off the car several times.
