Mach 1 or Cobra

I'm thinking of trading in my GT for a Mach 1 but then since I'm in the thinking about it stage, I figured I'd throw in the Cobra for good measure.

What are the opinions out there?

1. Mach1 (which I can supercharge later on)
Upside - cheaper
Downside - less powerful and compression ratio that is not so friendly to supercharging

2. A 99+ Cobra -
upside - already supercharged
downside - Money and can the IRS handle anything past 450rwp?...because I'm planning on keeping this car for the long haul and getting some serious power out of it in the years to come.

3. Keep my GT and keep working on it and eventually reach the point where I'll have to upgrade to a racing block.

Let me know what you all think and any experience you may have had in the past. Appreciate all the help I've gotten so far through my other posts. :flag:

Just to let you Know the 99 and the 2001 cobra are not supercharged they are N/a with 320 horsepower. The 03+ are supercharged and have 390 hp.
Guess it just comes down to what kind of $$$ you got to spend

I got a cobra, so I'm kinda bias.. and with all the upgrades that are out there for the cobras, you could potentially have a super fast car with little money put in.

I'm at 12.0 and I still can go lower with the set up I'm at... and soon.. WHIPPLE!

If you want the maximum power and potential get the 03+ Cobra. It's pretty much the best motor ever made for a Mustang, who can argue a forged boosted factory V8? But, overall the it's a bit heavier and not quite as nimble as the Mach for daily driving purposes.

If you want a great all around Stang with moderate stock power (compared to other modded Stangs like GTs and what not) get the Mach.

I posted this question a couple of months back as well, and I'm still pretty much stuck. The 99/01 Cobras factory warranty will be expired in a couple of months, and the 03/04 cobra would kill me on insurance. So there is the Mach, which would be a great addition to the garage, however I already have to hard tops and wanted something to cruise around in on the weekends (convertible style). But I guess you would have to test drive all models and make up your mind based off of personal experience, like it was previously stated. Good Luck in your quest.

You seem to be concerned about the insurance on the Cobras. Have you actually gotten quotes for the Cobra? I checked with my insurance company out of curiosity and it was only $9 more a month.

The way I look at it, I can make my GT look just like I want it to and as much power as I want, all it takes is money. I'd rather build exactly like I want than get a compromise car, which the Mach1 would have been. I've got big plans for this car involving a couple turbos 4 cams and 329ci :D

well, test drive both first. i did. the cobra's more fun but feels more refined than the mach. i think that, in the mach, you get the sense that you're in a muscle car. the cobra, on the other hand, has SOOO much power it's a joke.

if i was buying, i'd get a mach1 and put a forged shortblock and a novi 2000 on it and dust 03 cobras all day.

mach 1's are awesome! except for the wheels, dumb painted spoiler, and ugly gauges, they rock. i've driven one, and i loved how it drove. if my dealership had mach 1's in stock when i went there, i may have one. but, as it stands, i bought a 01 cobra, relatively low miles, put 250 bucks into it, got over 300 rwhp. can't really argue with that. its faster than hell, outruns SS's (most of the time), is LOUD and mean, and is bright yellow. i love how it handles too, especially compared to my 03 GT I used to have.
