I don't know if you guy's can help much because the info that I have is limited. I was going to wait until Monday to get all the info but it's bothering me so here it is. I have an 89 LX 5.0. I did the mass-air swap using only the body from a 96 4.6 T-Bird. I used my original sensor. Now I am getting a check engine light, I don't remember what the code # was but the definition was "mass air flow out of range". Do I need the sensor from the T-Bird as well or are they the same? Thanks in advance for the help.

It sounds like you answered your own question. The sensor and housing are a married pair. If for instance you use a stock sensor in a MAF housing that's larger than the stock housing (a perceived performance upgrade), more air is ingested by the engine than the computer realizes. This can create a lean code (rich adaptive limit).

I have the feeling this might be what occurred (though I know nothing of T-bird meters) because otherwise there'd be no reason to use a MN meter housing.

Look into a 94-95 Mustang MAF swap. You'd use the 94-95 F2 meter and 70 mm housing (keeping them a married pair). The meters are cheap in the used market.

Good luck.
