Hi, want to change my maf sensor for a bigger one the one I have is stock and I think is 55mm.
I read on some forms that the maf from a thunderbird will fit and that is a direct bolt on.
So I went and got one dron the junk yard today.
I got one dron a 97 thunderbird and I need to know if this will work with my Foxbody 93 with 19 lb injectors and if is a bolt on, I need to know if it worked fine and if I will have any problems?

Is my first time posting something here so just learning.
I really need your help .

Thanks.

I've never heard of a '97 Thunderbird one being a direct bolt on (doesn't mean is isn't) as those cars were 4.6L and I think all the 4.6Ls had 80mm MAF. However, the 94-95 GT meter is 70mm and is a direct bolt on.

@Cabrera93stang

Here's what fits and I know that it works...

94-95 Mustang GT MAF - $40-$100. It is 70 MM instead of the stock 55 MM on regular stangs built prior to 94. This is a direct one for one swap that does not require any tuning or programming, It uses a slip on duct on the side that goes to the throttle body and a 4 bolt flange on the other. You need a flange adapter to fit the stock slip on air ducting that goes to the air box. Wiring plugs right in with no changes. *1 *2

*2.) MAF & sensor interchange
The 94-95 Mustang 5.0 MAF & sensor is also found on:
1995-94 Mustang 3.8L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Crown Victoria 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1995-94 Mustang, Mustang Cobra 5.0L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Town Car 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Grand Marquis 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
Evidently the –A1A, -A2A, AA, etc. on the end of the part number is a minor variant that did not change the operating specs. You should be able to ignore it and have everything work good.

What is the plan with the car? You likely will not notice any difference, if it fits, match the part numbers with the list in post#7 above, if it matches put it on a shelf and plan your next mod, there is a lot of info in the 5.0 tech/how to section that is worth browsing through, just ignore stuff like underdrive pullies and 4.11 gears unless it's a race car. A lot of people contributed to it that have been there done that.
So, how bout some pics and your plan?

Very interesting. The only thing I know about that from experience is that the '96-98 4.6L GTs and the '96-98 4V 4.6L Cobras both used 80MM MAF. Not the 70MM for the 2V and 80MM for the 4V like they state in that write up. I had a 96 GT and my friend had a '97 Cobra and both had the same meter.

Got anything you can measure the Thunderbird meter with?

This is what I have done to the car so far ..
Gt40 heads, gt40 upper and lower intake, 65 mm throttle body and egr spacer, 19 lbs injectors from explorer, cold air intake, E-303 cam, exedy stage 2 clutch, underdrive pulleys, smoke pump deleted, long tube bbk headers, dual electrical fans, 130amp alternator,

I don't know how many hp I'm making right now I haven't dyno my car .

I don't wanna have a race car because I want to drive it on The street .. but I do want to have some power under that hood on my 5.0 .

So any suggestions on some other mods to get hp with out going wild I appreciate your help.

Thanks.

nice looking engine
go with the 70MM MAF from 94-95 GT. That is the only one I would use as the mapping is near the fox body. You will need to fab or buy an adapter so it is slip fit like the fox body.

Also, Not a fan of U/D pulleys- all they do is cause cooling and charging issues in exchange for 5hp at 5000rrpm

I hope that you already have a matching 70 MM housing; the housing and the sensor are designed to work together as unit.

Jrichker.
I just got the maf air sensor from a 94 Mustang GT or a V6 supposed to be 70 mm. And I still need to get the adapter for the fox body .

But the plug on the sensor is different than the Foxbody do I need to splice the wires and put this new plug . Or it should be the same plug connector?

Do the numbers look the same on your MAF sensor and the one I posted is correct?
If not then there's your answer
