MAF Sensor

Please help. I'm looking for a procedure to clean the tubes on my MAF sensor.
I'm getting oil pushed out of the PCV valve onto the valve cover on the passenger side. Of course, the dealer is no help, blaming the C&L cold air induction kit I have installed with the 85mm MAF tube. Anyway, I thought I'd start with cleaning the MAF as I've had three different K&N filters on the vehicle and the oil from three new filters may have clogged the springs/tubes.

Any help would be appreciated

Pat, all you need is some CRC quick-dry electrical contact cleaner. Spray that bad-larry down and let it dry for a minute then connect everything back up.

Also a word of advice - don't post your email in public message boards, or you might fall victim to some serious spammage!

I say bah to that video! I have taken a K&N right out of the box, and have shaken oil right off of the filter. There may have just been a fluke on their assembly line, but regardless, it can still happen. Half the time, the plastic cover the filters come shipped in are dripping with oil. I understand his philosophy on 'getting oil on your shirt', but that's just a drop of oil.

I prefer the green filters, or some of the other non-oiled high performance filters. There are quite a few other performance filters out that don't require oiling, and that outflow the K&N. Now, don't get me wrong; I still use a K&N cone on my car. I have just read alot into this situation myself.

I thought I'd heard about a service bulletin regarding the PCV hose leaking on 02 GTs...? Mine leaked, had nothing to do with the MAF. I cleaned the area up and added a small hose clamp and have had no problems since. Under heavy conditions, the pressure forces oil out around the edges of the hose that connects to the PCV.
Also, I'm no fan of C&L MAFs (got two of em sitting in my spare parts box), but on the 02 MAF, there is no (sampling) tube. The 01 has a (sampling) tube. Are we talking about the same tube? Are you simply talking about the entire MAF housing?
Below is a pic of a couple 01 MAFs (note the sampling tubes inside).

As previously stated, I'd put more stock into the oil contaminating a mass air meter being from the hose connected to the PCV valve. Yes, I realize that the fitting on the intake is located after the meter, but when the T/B slams shut after a WOT run, the air backs up into the intake hose and it's open season on anything located between either end of it. I'm betting an oil separator would cure 90% of the contaminated Mass Air Wire problems.

If you have trouble believing that that much oil could get sucked into the engine through the PCV, pull your intake tube off and take a look at the junk clogging up your throttle body, or take a look at the inside of an intake manifold with a few miles on it for reference.....this goes double for supercharged vehicles.

The main issue is the oil on the valve cover around the PCV valve. I thought that maybe a clogged MAF sensor was the cause. The responce from twogts4us seems most likely and yes I meant the entire MAF housing. I will look for the service bulletin regarding the PCV valve on 2002's.
Thanks again to everyone with input.

Good advice. Reversion also takes place with the throttle blade open, it is just not as significant as when the throttle blade is closed. An in-line oil separator is a good idea if a new PCV valve doesn't help.

An oily or dirty MAF sensor housing would have nothing to do with the oil on the valve cover around the PCV valve opening. The PCV valve tubing is routed downstream of the MAF. If you have oil around the valvecover by the PCV valve opening, that is likely a sign of a bad or stuck PCV valve, a clog in the PCV valve tubing or excess crankcase pressure (another story).

My bet is that you have a faulty PCV valve or clogged PCV valve tubing.
