Magnaflow Exhaust Tip Problem(again!!)

Well my problem is with my Exhaust Tips on my Magnaflow Exhaust System. It is a re-occurring problem. The "Allen" screw gets lose and the frigging tip rattles like no ones business. This will be the third attempt to having this problem resolved. I work at a Ford dealership and last time I had a Ford Tech put it on a lift and tighten the screw up and throw some lock-tight on it....well as it happend that screw has since cracked. Now before I buy new tips and kill these...I was hoping anyone had any ideas or suggestions????

why don't you just get the tips in place where you want them, and get a small spot weld to hold them there. I'm sure you can do that at work. Worst case scenario (and I can't see why you'd need to but)if you ever want to re adjust just whip out a hacksaw. I never had that problem.
did you try getting more allen screws from a hardware store?

Don't trash those tips. I sold a slightly beat up pair for $35 at a swap meet.

I was seriously considering having them welded on. But I called Maganflow's Tech Line and they said to not weld cause it defeats the purpose of them being adjustable.(More like constant pain in the a$$!!!, with the rattling!!)
I will prolly head out to the local hardware store to get some more Alleen screws to get me by, cause I have the cracked on on my desk right now. I justed wanted to see if anyone had a permanent fix for this pain in the a$$! Thanks man.

I put my tip on w/ a longer allen screw and put on some lock nuts. Never have had a problem...and they are tighter than hell. No rattles

I used a 5/16" bolt.
Cranked it in tight. It didn't fit perfectly, but it doesn't come out now

This might be an option, but noone has welded it on????

locktyte will solve all problems, I cracked one of my set screws too and replaced them both with SS ones and blue locktye. Use the blue because it's less perminant

Mine comes out from time to time... Blue loctite and tightened the crap out of it. The other side is a 5/16" bolt that doesn't budge.

I used red.. Might have been a mistake in retrospect.. Oh well!

my hole system is welded on and they just spot welded the srews on the hanger. What's up with those long as@ hangers. That's what was causing mine to rattle so i just cut them half way. I say go to a muffler shop show them what you are talking about they should weld it. They did Mine for free because it only took them one min.....

Super glue! j/k... although it might work as good as the thread locker..

Anyhow, I tighten them with my own hand and the passenger side got loose once.. it's been 2 months now and no problems

And although adjustable tips are nice.. it's kind of frustrating for me to adjust them the way I want them simply because I can't find the Perfect length for them to come out. What I don't realized is that those tips looks great in every aspect.

Thanks man. I am gonna drop by the Hardware store tonight and pick up some longer Allens and some nuts to bolt them down with and lock it up with some blue lock-tight. Hopefully that will be a permanant fix, third time isa charm. If that doesn't work I am off to the Exhaust Sop and have them Weld that sucker on.

I had the same problem......it wasn't the screw for me. The metal rod that the tip hangs from (the LONG metal rod) was actually so long that it was resting up againt the clamp of the exhaust tip. So I busted out the trusty Dremel and whacked an inch or two off.

No problems since.

Would that be the noise I'm hearing when I drive over a bump or rut in the road, or is it the exhaust hitting the suspension?

If is rattles i have heard of people spreading an epoxy around the joint to seal in loose objects. I think someone said this but a loc tight would also do the job.

I had a similar problems, only the driver's side tip actually moved BEHIND the rear bumper and burned a tiny portion of the paint off! Luckily, the burn spot isn't visible, since it is inside the bumper. Anyway, I ended up getting my tips welded. Since I had no intentions of adjusting them again, I figured that would be the best solution for me. After that, no significant problems even though they aren't perfectly aligned (about 1/4 inch off) It's barely noticeable though.

Mine (driver's side) kept hitting the swaybar when I run over bumps or dips on the road. I had the muffler shop "bend" the pipe, and no more knocking sound since.
