Roush Magnesium Wheels?

I just bought some saleen wheels that I thought were the magnesium wheels.
They look like the magesiums and they say Saleen next to the valve stem and on the back of one of the spokes on each wheel, but nowhere does it say magnesium. All the magnesium wheels I have seen say Speedline Magnesium. Were there certain years when these wheels were produced or are these not even magnesium.
I've attempted to attach a picture.

If I'm not mistaken all the magnesium wheels say so.

Saleen did have a standard satin silver finish that looked similar.

I have to ask. Are those even 18" wheels. They look small on that fox body. If they are 18's they could be very old prototypes. They also are all 8.5's all the way around right? The 10" wheels wont work on the rear of a fox body car.
Every magnesium wheel I have seen for Saleen says Speedline and Magnesium on the wheel but not Saleen. The older 94-98 aluminum style Saleen wheels say saleen and speedline. The newer 94-98 same wheels only say Saleen on them and only next to the valve stem spoke. The wheel in your picture does look like the magnesium wheel Speedline produced for Saleen. . Just by feel with the tire dismounted the magnesium wheel is considerably lighter than the aluminum wheel. I don't have the difference in weight between the two. If you can verify that the wheels are magnesium then you may have something special there. Like I said earlier, maybe a prototype for Saleen or something. I have seen stranger Saleen prototype parts floating around out there over the years but no wheels exactly like that.
If there was a reproduction wheel out there it would'nt say Saleen on it, and in all of my years I have never seen a repro of the Saleen Speedline magnesium wheel.

The wheels are 18 x 8.5 all around. I have attached two more pictures to try and help identify them(Excuse the quality, they're from a camera phone). The wheels were sold as coming off a 1995 Saleen. I asked him for the number and he returned with 94-126, which doesn't exist. I assume he meant 95-126 which according to the Saleen Book makes it a S-351 with both the T-code and Spyder Package. For those with the latest Saleen Book, I believe the 94-0001 Saleen pictured on pg. 147 has the same wheels and it is listed as have a tire upgrade, but not a wheel upgrade. Was it possible to get just a tire upgrade without the magnesium wheels or did the tire upgrade mean it also got 18 x 8.5's magnesiums all around instead of 18 x 10's in the rear given in the wheel upgrade.

At the time you could order the tire upgrade without the wheel upgrade. Most S351's came with magnesium wheels, but not all. Car number 0001 for any year is usually Steve's personal car or is used as a press car. I'm sure someone can chime in with extra info about that first S351. My point is that any of the press cars or the very first S351 for that matter had numerous options changed and or upgraded from one week to another so that when the book says nothing about a wheel upgrade the car probably came with them. Technically the wheel upgrade is the 10" rear wheel up from the 8.5. My car came with the 8.5's and 10's in magnesium and it says nothing about a wheel upgrade on the window sticker only the tire uprade is on there to the tune of $1,375.00. I also don't know if all of the R-Code cars automatically came with 10's in ther rear? Maybe someone else knows.
I would'nt be too concerned about the wheels not being authentic. I'm sure they are. I noticed a little rash from one of the pictures. Whatever you do don't take them to your neighborhood powdercoater. You cannot safely powdercoat magnesium wheels. A few guys claim they can but it is not reccomended.

I do believe that I have authentic Saleen wheels, but I am beginning to think that they are not Magnesium. I guess I'll just keep researching and see if I can find any more information.

If they are authentic Saleen wheels, which I believe they are then those wheels are magnesium. If you want to know for sure call Saleen on monday and ask for Liz, and e-mail her a picture of the wheel. She will be able to verify and also everything to know about car 95-0126. Good luck. Some chemist ought to be able to tell you how to test something for magnesium also. Just a thought.

They look like magnesiums but, I have never seen a set without Magnesium on them. What markings are on the back. I would say the only true way to tell is to weigh them. Try that and send me the weights with tires. I have both the standard wheels and the magnesiums so I could tell you. Make sure to tell me what tires are on the car so I can take that into account. Those definately look like the Magnesium wheels. I've only seen them with the words Speedline, Magnesium, and 18" on them. I've attached a picture of the front wheel on mine (excuse the curb rash, a prior owner obviously had no respect...they're going to be re-done). The non-magnesium wheels have the more flat spokes. Take a look at the car in the linkd that Marcus gave and you'll see the difference.

To attach a picture, go down to additional options and click on manage attachments and then browse to find your picture. I believe the file cannot be large than 71kb. If it is larger, then saving it as a jpeg (if it's not already) will usually make it small enough. You can also go to Paint (or similar program) and crop it down then save it. Upload the picture. The file should appear in the post window before you close the attachment window.

i've got a set of speedline/saleen wheels with the flat spokes on my SSC... im pretty sure theyre aluminum though... im trying to attach a picture of one of mine. excuse the condition of the car, i bought it this way and im rebuilding it right now... also, they are all 8.5" and the one i pulled off the car has a 96 stamped on it. i was wondering if this bears any significance...

I'm very disappointed and losing faith in both you two Marcus and Mike ...... Of course, I can't be to harsh with you as I didn't now the story until I came across a set similar to those. A simple phone call to Mark @ PAS solved the entire mystery. 1st and foremost, there are authentic Speedline Magnesium wheels out there that DON'T say Speedline or Magnesium on the wheels. Just ask Bart or Kevin!! Bart sold me a set, NIB of 10" Rear offset Magnesium Wheels that had no writing on the lips of the wheels but did have the two Speedline marks like the one below....the two markings to the right of the valve stem.....

I would get a picture, but they are in a car trailer to North Carolina to be installed on a Pantera

Anyways, now to that wheel. Is it a true Saleen Wheel? Yes
Is it a Magnesium Wheel? Yes
Is it a Speedline Magnesium Wheel? No
Just like the Le Mans style alloy wheels, Saleen got there hands on the mold (from Speedline) and produced there own Magnesium wheels!! That's right. With the exception of the weight, the wheels are identical....If you don't believe me, call Mark @ PAS to verify it. The Saleen version weighs slightly more then the Speedline one. Hopefully, the entire set are the same, otherwise the wheels will be different it weight. On the positive side, not many of those wheels were manufactored, so you do have a semi-rare set of wheels on you hands.....

I'm just giving you sh** since at the time I didn't think the mag style wheels Saleen re-made were actually magnesium. I thought they were aluminum since I have seen the totally polished. I figured the guy got happy with the polishing wheel and polished the "magnesium' stamp right off the wheel.
