Major Problem!!!!

I'm in the process of installing a T5 tranny out of a 94 into my 67. I have Hooker Comp headers and of course I have bell housing interferance now with the headers. Does anyone know if this is adherent to the 94/5 bells and tranny's?

Now for the really bad part. Where the cable goes into the bell housing I have interference with the steering "thingy". I don't know what it's called and I'm too pizzzzzed off to care. I loosened up the header to allow the bell to seat on the engine correctly. Figuring I'll deal with that later. But the nylon piece on the cable will not go into the bell hole.

any suggestions???

Okay, well it looks as though I may be the first with this problem.

Here's what I found out along the way. In 94/95 Ford decided to move the hole for the cable on the bell housing to a lower position. Thus making it interfere with the steering components. I found a pic of a 93 and earlier bell that showed the immediate difference.

Luckily the guy I bought the tranny from understood what neither of us knew and we're gonna fix the situation. He's actually going to swap out the input shaft (because it's longer in the 94/95 T5's) for the shorter 93 version and then swap me an earlier T5 bell housing.

It's a pain in the butt.... but at least we can get it sorted out in the end.

On a better note. I got the manual pedals in the car and it looks good. Mustang Steve set up..... bearings too (which rock!).

Hee Hee... I guess I'm just talking to myself on this one... :)

One more question. Does anyone know that or IF the only differences between the 93 T5 and the 94/95 T5 is the length of the input shaft? I'm fully confident that my guy knows what he's talking about. I was just curious though if anybody else has any experience in this problem of mine.

thanks...

That's the only difference I've been able to find so far as well. I plan on putting a 94/5 T5 in my 66. I knew about the difference in the bell as well but figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Check your speedo gear (internal) as well. I found mine has an electronic speedo, no gear.

No I didn't snap a pic from when the bell was in the car. I think some people refer to the hole as the "ear" portion that sticks out on the bell. Where it's located is different than the 93' and earlier styles. It's lower. What are you using for the actuation? Cable, Zbar or Hydraulic? If you're using the cable I'd see you as possibly having this problem.

I am putting a 95 t5 into my 68. The tranny is in but I don't have any exhaust on the car yet. You have any pics of the problems? Mostly the steering "thingy".

I honestly don't know if the hydraulic would be any better. I'd guess I had about three inches of clearance on the engine side of the bell before it would hit the steering mechanism. I don't know what you need for the hyrdraulic set up. You'd have to get under there and look for yourself.

Cable doesn't have a chance.....

And I'm not about to switch to hydraulic. I've got everything ready to go for the cable and the hydraulic is way expensive.

The steering "thingy" is probably the center-link. It's good to know the lingo :). Also, don't be surprised if the headers still will not fit. Our cars werent made to have these transmissions so parts that fit with your old one might not fit with the new one. I am sure though that you will be able to find a pair of headers that will fit whether they be shorties or long tubes. Good luck man

We just finished installing an 89 T5 with cable clutch and 89 bellhousing in the 68 Fastback, with very little fitment issues, it is tight at the shifter and floor area. Headers were the TriY's though which gave us plenty of room.
