I know this is better in tech but there is more traffic here. I cant stand the damn infamous 4 valve tick anymore:mad: Now that its cold out I can hear it more often. Used to be only on a cold start and then after a few min it would almost completly go away, almost. Now I can hear it whenever there is no load, always goes away under load. How do I get rid of it and could someone give me a ruff ballpark on cost. What exactly is the cause? Thanks guys and gals.

Use some lucas oil addative bro, cost 10 bucks, but will help that tick I bet. Try it on your next oil change. Should be no more then 10 bucks. And wont sludge up your internals. I know guys on the track that use it on newer cars. Next oil change Im using it on my 46K mile Cobra, with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Not promising it will work for sure but, it worked on my winsor fox that ticked in the valvetrain. Couldnt hurt. Just my 2 cents. Also what weight of oil are you using?

I just changed it last month with Valvoline Synthetic blend 5w-30 with the Motorcraft filter and added the Lucas as it has worked for me in the past, but not this time. I would like to know what causes it on these 4-valves, I have heard valve guides or seals. The heads are new (only 10k) but he used all the old parts fron the old heads. I want it fixed, not just a band aid. If the heads have to be pulled I guess I will do the cooling crosover upgrade on the rear. I wonder since it dosent do it under load if it might be something with the oil pump as they are a weak spot on our cars:shrug:

Pull the valve covers off and check torque on the valvetrain.

 I know its comming from the drivers side and its a common problem for these. I know there are alot of guys on here that have delt with this and I just want to know how THEY fixed it, what it was and what it cost.

Anyone? I know I have spoke to others here that have had the problem, Uncle Meat you had the heads replaced twice under warrenty, what was causing the tick? I dont wana replace the whole head. I will buy the right tools and do the springs and seals myself if that is the problem. Please help SVT guys, I know someone knows exactly what causes this tick.

venom97: Was it the tensioner on yours that made the noise? Was it louder on a cold start and go away under load?

Hey UncleMeat: I thought you had this problem before too, what was the cause. I know they replaced you heads but I wana avoid that and just fix it if possiable.
