The wife's 03 has been puking power steering fluid out the vent hole. The dealership claims that's a common issue and nothing can be done about it which seemed odd. Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Just wondering. It it over filled?

Are you turning the wheels by hand with the nose up in the air?

If not, I call BS. IMO there's either:
  • a problem in the pump itself
  • a blocked line
  • degraded fluid. Wrong type. You are aware that Ford power steering pumps use automatic transmission fluid right?
  • A problem in the steering rack.
If there's the slightly defect in the high pressure hoses it will cause problems.

A pump problem could cause over heating. Venting fluid is a symptom of overheating.

What is the condition of the fluid? What does the screen at the bottom look like?

Be sure to rent the correct tools to remove and install the PS pump pulley if you decide to replace it. Don't even think about hitting it.
