I would always rather have a manual but after sixteen straight years and L.A. traffic I finally had enough. I still drive the 5-speed 2-3 days a week, which is usually Friday-Sunday.

Now this is MY opinion and MINE only...

I dont care what kind of car it is (street, street/strip, or track only) I would have a manual. Something about slamming gears and doing it right is just not worth going faster in an auto!

I will probably never own an auto car, but do plan to run some fast numbers in the future! I will just have to drive the car down the track to get there!

Of the three cars(Mustangs) I have owned thus far, only the current one was an automatic. I ditched that in favor of a Toploader before the car was even drivable. The only automatic cars I have ever driven were the ones for driver training. Both of my parents drive manuals. I like having as much control over the car as I can and autos dont let me do that. I dont care for drag racing either and an automatic doesnt lend itself to open tracking nearly as much. I will agree that a heavy clutch can get tiring in L.A. traffic, but I drive 90% open road.

i go from stop sign to stop sign everyday,thats why i am leaning toward an auto

I spent the last couple years driving ALL the time in NY, CT and NJ traffic (NYC traffic sucksss) and still wouldnt trade the stick! I have owned 3 Mustangs, 2 were auto but converted, last was a stick, and my Jeep was an auto (I will admit for a tow, or regular vehicle auto is easier)!

If you live in a big city and you have a DD Auto.

i had a stick focus, i live in chi. and i almost lost my leg twice due to fatigue, but im a pu55y so that might have something to do with it

Again thats just me, but seeing a well driven mid 9 second stick shifted car is just poetry in motion! Im talking a stick shifted car, not a clutchless manual, but a guy out there powershifting (with the clutch) his way down the track!

Wouldn't powershifting a car with enough power to run 9's be hell on a clutch and tranny? Just a thought.

I love manuals and as long as I have a performance car that sees street time, I plan to keep a stick. Both of my stangs are sticks, but my Jeep is Auto. For a performance car (off-road, etc), I think a stick is the way to go, but for a grocery getter type of car, I'd just as soon have an auto.

People drive stoplight to stoplight in manuals all the time, but it does suck after a while; I like having an auto so I can pick and choose.

Just a FYI: One time, I raced a guy w/ an auto Coupe, heads, cam, intake and exhaust and my LX hatchback only had flowmasters and a K & N. I put 2-3 lengths on him and I attribute that to mine being a stick and his being an auto.

With the right tranny, and clutch on a light car, it could live fine. I have heard stories about guys on stock T5s running 10s and even 9s... Throw in a Gforce or Tremec in there and it should survive for a while!

I vote for a manual 5 speed T5 especially after I put in my new King Cobra clutch kit and now the pedal is smooth and efortless. I think it reduced the clutch pedal effort by 75% and that is no hyperbole.

How many of you could actualy handle +1000hp banging gears with a clutch?

I would say not many....

Full manual auto with trans break,unless you can afford a Lenco but that praticly the same thing.

tko 600, or a manual with straight cut gears and no syncros if its a drag car.....other wise go with a built auto like a c4 with a full manual valve body
