I was think about switching to an early 80s manual rack or buying a Flaming River one. Has anybody done this? My car is mostly street driven but I dont like the soft feel at higher speeds. Will switching to manual make it very stiff to turn on the streets? I dont want my car to turn like an old truck. Also what is the quick ratio unit for? The stock one responds well for me.

What size tires do you have up front? Any weight reduction?

It will be harder to turn the wheel at a standstill and at really low speeds, but it's not going to be unbearable. Once moving there will be little effort. Lots of people have done this and are happy with it, I have too but haven't driven the car yet.

I have 255 45 17's up front, a flaming river manual steering conversion. Easy conversion, a couple of hours I think. It feels more solid to me, but thats just my opinion. You'll definitely notice the difference at very slow speeds, I've gotten used to it though. The quick ratio is a personal preference. For a given turn of the steering wheel, a quick ratio will turn the car more. I liked the stock ratio so I went with that. Hope that helps.

I don't plan on switching to a manual rack simply because I'm not sure if I'd like it. Maybe if I got to drive a car with one I might change my mind. Sometime in the future I may decide to try that powersteering system MM offers. A little expensive but I really want to see how it performs.
