ok I know this has been raked over a million times........but here goes

can I remove my 88's SD EFI harness, computer and install a mass air meter, computer, and MA harness from my 91 parts car without having to remove any other wiring?......otherwise isnt the EFI parts of the two harness's seperate from the rest of all the wiring under hood, dash etc....?

thanks
Jack

MASS air conversion instructions from http://www.stangnet.com/tech/maf/massairconversion.html FREE

Copied From bbunt302

Just for reference, here's a list of all the compatible years:

89 harness should work for 86-89 as long as you're using mass air.
90 harness will only work in a 90. (B/c of air bags and dual dash connectors)
91 through early 92 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under driver's seat)
Late 92 through 93 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under the hood)

Computers from 89-92 are all the same. Look for the A9L sticker on the back cover for a 5 speed that matches your requirements. Example: E9ZF 12A650 AA" with the A9L code.

everyone keeps talking about soldering wires?? if I have the wiring from the injectors to the computer off of a mass air car, the mass air meter off of a mass air car, and the computer off of a mass air car.......wouldnt that just be all I needed? .........I may be missing something here, but the fuel system (EFI) on 86 thru 93 mustangs are all independent of the body harness's from what I can tell. Maybe not........but I was thinking it would be a straight forward swap, harness for harness, of course the underhood piping from air filter to tb, computer for computer, was thinking that was all.
thanks
Jack

Nope as Im finding out with swapping my 87 computer and harness, with that of a 91 is that I need to replace my under dash/interior harness (aint so bad since My car had a fire) either that you might experience problems with your fuel pump not running and stuff of that nature. Your best bet would be to get a harness out of a 89, or nab a interior harness and do the upgrade.

i just bought the kit

in my personal opinion, if you dont really know what needs to be done to do the swap, spend the money and skip the headache.
buy the ford motorsport mass air conversion kit. it comes with everything you need, and can be done in a few hours. all you have to do is:
change the EEC,
plug in a few wire clips
and run 1 wire through the firewall.
its about $600 but i'll never regret taking the easy way out.
thats just me though. some people will say its a total rip off.....
but i just bought another SD car and im selling my old one.
and you know what? im pulling all the MASS AIR stuff out and its going in my new car. how can you go wrong, a little under $600 to convert every SD car you ever own. its a life long investment if you ask me.
the car is bored to a 306 with- cam, cobra intake,4.10's,msd, pullys and more.
to be perfectly honest, i did not notice one single difference in drivability with mass air just different throttle response, but i do not have before and after time slips to compare ET's so its possible i picked up a few tenths, who knows. anyone have an opinion on this:shrug:

Don't spend 600. What a rip off. Just do it like the article says to a T. I did, and it went fine. Just solder in those wires to the computer harness, and under the driver seat and kick panel, and you'll be fine. Sure it takes longs but you'll save so much more. I paid 200 for my whole setup with computer, and I put the other 400 into heads.

I'm glad that article is still up and helping people, that's me.

Since you have the EEC and meter it seems like it would be easiest to add just the additional wiring for the MAF and extra signals. I found a kit with just that wiring once but don't remember now($70.00 or so). Harness swap seems like PITA.

My 88 still running great

Mass Air harness $35, junk yard computer $50 rumble of F303 shaft in 88 Pony with perfect driveability ............ priceless. Picked up the harness from Carolina Mustangs. Included wire with plug for meter on one end and pins to put in 60 pin connector on other (4 wires). Also included were wires for vehicle speed sensor and fuel pump monitor. Moved wires in harness per instructions, 2 hours 1 person. Saved $500 and didn't have to rewire dash.:rlaugh:

$34.99 mass air conversion harness link

yep this is basically the identical same thing...........

this is the route i'm going, why rewire the whole damn car? Just splice that in and go. Cheapest route yet. I've already got that 4 wire harness. I believe $29 on ebay from thunderbolt motorsports. came with a THICK packet of instructions with detailed wiring diagrams and instructions.

Just do the swap with that 4wire harness, I was surprised how easy it was. The hardest part was getting the 4 wires through my firewall grommet ehh. I got the harness for 50 bucks from Downs Ford, mass air computer from friend for 70 bucks, and already had a stock maf and fenderwell kit for it all to work. Actually when i did my swap all i did was that i didnt even splice in for the fuel pump signal and the VSS signals, but i got to pick up some pins to do them. Would anybody happen to know if I have a VSS? I dont have cruise control, would that mean i dont have a VSS? BTW its an 87 gt
