Max tire size on stock 16'' wheel

I am wondering what is the larges size of tire that I can put on the rear of my 1994 GT. It has the factory 16'' wheels. I have been told 245/50/16...but I am getting a speed cal, so the speedo doesn’t matter just clearance and what will actually fit on the wheel

When I had my stock 16's still that size is what I had and was told was a large as one could go on the 7(?)in wide rim.

i just got 255/50/16 et street drag radials on stock 16x7.5 wheels
