Tonight I changed the oil, plugs, and cleaned the air filter. I think the air filter still had some water in it when I started the car up cuz it ran like crap for a few minutes. I also had some steam/smoke coming from the breathers, but that stopped after a minute....I don't know if that was just some oil burning off or steam from the water...I guess I'd like to know if I should check anything? Or change the oil again? My oil pressure was a little lower than usual, but I did go from 10W-40 to 10W-30.

you should change the PCV while you are at it.

check how much oil you put on the filter, bc it might have contaminated the maf... although, it is a hot wire so if it was little oil, it mightve burned off already.

Im running the Edelbrock Victor intake which doesn't have an opening for a pcv valve, and Im just running breathers in the valve covers.

I didn't think it would hurt, but I plan on taking the car for a 300 mile round trip this weekend so I thought I would ask just to make sure. :)

Mike, FWIW back in the day, we used to run water (from a spray bottle) through the carb throats before a plug change. It was a steam cleaning of sorts (not unlike seafoaming).

It's hard to resist over-oilling the filters. If I had the cash, I'd try an AEM non-oiled filter.

Have fun on the trip. :nice:

also, some people deliberately inject water into their intake to cool the intake air down.

Yeah, I thought about that later. I think the only trouble this incident caused was from the neighbor complaining about me "raising hell" when I revved the engine a little to keep it running. :nonono:

When we had emissions we use to spray water in the carb on my cousins old 250,000 mile work truck to pass the sniffer test. We did it right before pulling it in the station. Rev it up and spray it in. For those couple of minutes it ran clean.

.........and why evn bother putting oil on the air filter? (that is what your talking about, right?)
The filter elements dont filter as well without the oil. It's kinda necessary. That's why I wanna try one of the newer versions.

Wish I had some water in my engine!

A mist or small amount will not hurt anything. Its when its craning with it taking in like a garden hose down the intake that hurts.

WIth the water inj. basicly its setup to evap. from the heat of the engine. The heat that the engine makes that is taken up by evap. the water makes the are around it drop in temp.

I dunno about not driving around with no pcv though:scratch: . I mean I would almost want to rig something up like drill a hole in the intake and run a line to the pcv and put it in a VC with a grommet. Your still venting it with the breathers but I just dunno about that.
