I put a new McLeod Street Twin in my car about a month and a half ago. Took it to the track for the second time last weekend. After the first pass I could smell it getting hot and then it started slipping. I called McLeod this morning and the tech guy told me that the standard Street Twin wasn't going to hold up to my car. That was a great thing to hear after everyone told me there was no was I needed that type of clutch. I got repeatedly told there was no way I could hurt a single disc let alone a twin. I was also pretty disappointed to see a .05 drop off my 60ft times on the new clutch. Back to the drawing board!

its all in the application. there are plenty of single disk clutches out there that can handle insane amounts of power. just because its a twin disk setup doesnt mean its the best (obviously) i have ran a zoom clutch for a while now and it holds great.

Yeah I've tried a lot of different manufacturers and haven't found anything that works well in my application yet. I'm not bashing McLeod or anything just a little frustrated that a clutch that's advertised to hold 800hp didn't hold up to my 425hp car. I'll get it fixed and try it again. They told me I just needed to use different discs in it.

get a windowed kevlar or ceramic disc and you should be good. what is the Mcleod disc made of anyway. I would think rated at 800 it would already be kevlar or ceramic.

From what I gathered from the McLeod tech guys the discs are not made out of anything special. That's what my problem is. The heavy duty discs they make are made out of a copper metallic material that will tolerate the heat better.

My street twin held up to 55k of 450+rwtq from a KB on my 347, and it has ran 11.8 @ 120 on ET Streets. Dunno why it would slip for you. What was your launch rpm?

I launch at 5500 with a car that weights 3500lbs. My car ran a 7.28 @ 94.2 Mph in the 1/8th mile (11.40's in the 1/4). My local 1/8 mile track is usually a couple a tenths slower than the 1/4 mile tracks I run at.
