Media Blasting

I was wondering if the majority of you prefer to take your vehicles to a professional media blaster, or if you prefer to do it yourself.

For those of you that do it yourselves, what system do you use? Would a cheap and simple pressurized system like Cummins Tools sells work? Would I be better off trying something else? Here's a link to the sandblaster:

Sorry if this is a repeat topic. I used the search function for sand, sandblast, sandblasting, and every variation I could think of and it came back with no results, even though I could see the thread on "Sally" getting the front end redone.

I paid somebody to do it. $450 for the whole car. He did an excellent job.

I've blasted stuff before. It's fun, but it's all in how you use it. If you are confident in your abilities, have at it. But NEVER skimp on a good, all purpose tool.

If you are wanting to do body panels and such the 1/8, 1/4, or 3/8 nozzles most of the "home use" sandblasters have are more likely to warp panels.

WHERE AT? Was this inside out, top to bottom, etc? I'm doin a rotisserie and the dude is gonna charge me almost $2000. Which includes blowing out, vacuuming, and epoxy priming of the entire car. Oh, sorry to hitchhike....

It was at a place called "Blast Clean" here in Cleveland. I didn't have him prime it I did it myself. However if he would have it would have only brought the total to about $700-800. Blast clean does quite a few cars each year around here, he came highly recommended.

2000 is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much for sandblasting.

Yes, I totally agree. Unfortunately, I live in the boon docks of North west Florida, and this guy www.stripmasterspor15.com is the only person around for many many miles who does this type of work, and the only one who knows what he's doing, and the only one who can do a full rotisserie...oh well, what ya gonna do? I thought of doing it myself, but, since I'm doing the entire car, I'll pay someone to do it right, so I dont warp any panels...

I would go to some local car shows and ask around. There has to be somebody that can do what you want for less. If he really is the only guy around he knows it if he is charging that price.

Thats a deal! That way I dont have to mess around with trailers, and getting dirty. You know, that whole greasy thing really messes up my hands. Good idea about the car shows...may try that out ....thx
