Metallic Grinding Noise at Startup

Hey Guys,

I tried searching for this but couldn't find much and definetely nothing recently so I thought i'd try a new thread. Basically, every time i start the car (92 LX 5.0) it makes this metallic kinda grinding noise for a couple seconds.. and then goes away.. i have replaced the solenoid a couple times and tried 3 new starters.. it doesn't appear to be causing any damage to the car (according to the shop my friend owns that i take it to), but we are kinda dumbfounded as to what else this could be. I remember in like 2005 i thought i saw a couple ppl with the same issue and there was no resolution. Anyone, know anything else to try for this? Like i said it doesn't appear to be doing damange, its just annoying for a car that sounds good to make that sound for a second at start up. Thanks for your help.

What kind of shape is your ring gear in? Worn teeth will cause it to slip...especially on cold start up. Check to see if it's loose as well. I had this same issue once and it turned out to be a loose ring gear. I didn't clue in until it was beyond saving and had to install a new one. :bang:
