Yesterday I decided to change the oil in my 02 mustang from Motorcraft 5w-20 to Mobil One 0w-20... Anyway when I removed the oil cap there was a brownish white cream look to the stuff in the oil cap. I immediately freaked out and thought a head gasket was blown or damaged. So I finished the oil change, noted the oil level accurately and wiped the oil cap clean. Then I drove the car at least 10 miles to heat things up and the brownish white cream stuff (moisture) returned to the oil cap although not as thick this time.

I must say that the oil on the dipstick and the drained oil looked like it had no moisture in it. The car drives well and has no other sign of a blown head gasket.

So this afternoon I took the stang to the dealership and they said it is (fairly) normal to experience moisture in the oil system and brownish white cream stuff in the oil cap (they looked at it). The dealership claims the moisture accumulates in the raised portion of the oil cap...

So has anyone experienced this? It seems weird to me.

Thanks

Sorry to be stupid but what is a "intake gasket" and what does it have to do with moisture in the oil.

oh

the intake gasket is the gasket that goes betwen the intake and the heads.. if it is bad water and coolant can go into the engine..

Yea I understand how coolant might get into the head and combustion chamber but there is not an oil passage in the intake or the intake gasket.

Moisture or possibly coolant in the oil is my problem?

Its not moisture, its the oil sloshing around and causing airbubbles. its normal.

Humidity changes and weather changes can cause some condensation. It depends on the amount of "cream" you found. Hear in Tejas, It decided to become winter, AND "come a turdfloater" (rain alot) all in the same week.

Be on the look out for progressive power loss, and overheating-signs of head gasket problems.

If you have these problems or want to rule out these problems, consider a compression test at a reputable shop.

BTW, I personally see no need in going with a viscosity that low. I mean, dude, you know the forcast will probably going to be "highs in 50's" next week anyway!

Drive that puppy for longer that 10 miles, more like 20 or 30, get it up to normal operating temps then check it out. Normal condensation would probably "cook out" by then.

just my two.

Good luck!
