I'd like a better tach with a shift light and a recall function but I'm not sure on the look of it installed in the classic place (you know beside the cluster).

If I could I'd get a whole new cluster with autometer guages but my money is being spent on more important things (engine, suspension, chassis, etc...).

What's your take on the whole aftermarket tach located onto the instrument cluster... also I wonder if I could fit a smaller 4" tach on the column (I have a non airbag year) and hide the shift light where the dash speaker grill is (no speakers in my car).

I have no radio so I'm putting guages where the climate controls are (temp, oil pressure, oil temp)and moving the climate controls down on the bottom where the cubby hole would be, and maybe some more gauges where the radio would be (volts, air/fuel)... It will look sort of stock I don't like pillar style nor do I like removing the center vents, I want to hide the guages as much as I can for some reason but I like having a lot of guages (ricer in me).. feels like I'm flying a jet at VERY low speeds lol

There's a kit out there that allows you to flip-flop the radio and A/C controls, and allows for three gauge spots, too - you could always just block off the empty radio spot, and it'd still look pimp. Check eBay, it's on there somewhere, still.

I've had a column-mounted tach in my previous '89 notch, and it was okay - your natural tendency is to look down there by default when you're looking for RPM's, but the downside is it's darn near impossible to get one with a shift light that doesn't manage to block visibility to half your other stuff (even with that really small $50 tach Summit sells).

You could always go nutzoid on the empty dash space to your right, like I did. Works fine for me.

I have a iEquus 5" tach with shift light and recall on the side of the cluster and love it right there. I would put one in if I were you. I didn't really want to but I did it and am glad I did.

They are cool and all for drag cars but I personally don't like how they look in a street car, too "boy-racer" looking IMO. My car came with a 5" monster Tach and shift light, and I replaced with just one of those really small Autometer qucik-lite shift lights.

I think when I am at the lights and someone behind me sees the big tach they dont think about rice......if I were in a honda yea maby they would but not in a car that sounds like most of ours.

I hate mine.. its too out of the way and I never look at it. If I had an autometer cluster then ya, a big tach would be awesome.. but I am ditching mine and opting for just a shift light.

Shift lights kick ass, but a big tach is not necessary in a street car.

I think i am getting a shiftlight, not a tach. Personally I think they are to big and look out of place.
