More "oomph" with Trac off??

My '01 snake is stock 'cept for a K&N. Do I detect a little quicker acceleration on dry pavement with the Trac Control off, or is it just the fulfillment of wishful thinking? It's hard for me to remember to push that buttion an switch it off, but when I do, it seems to accelerate a little quicker...

Most definately...the Traction control modulates both fuel and the rear brakes when the computer senses lack of traction...so with it off it will be a lot quicker...they make plug in modules that can automatically turn it off for you when you turn your car on...I think you can find them on E-bay...

i have a mineral gray 01 too!! anyways, i thought the same thing! I experimented taking off both ways and i actually ran more with the traction control on! everytime it was off i spun everywhere, and that TCS ON just seemed to pull so hard but then i solved that problem with some Nitto's !! now i only cruise with the TCS OFF, and it pulls real hard now!! :worship:

Yes, everyone races with traction control set to "off" at the track. It's a must, otherwise you WILL bog (fuel cut, brake engage, etc) due to the traction control. If you have your owner's manual, there is a pretty comprehensive explanation about how it works (ie - it only engages once the system sees "uneven" wheel slip, meaning one side has lost traction, etc ).

Additionally, you can find a "traction control defeat" module over at PEP, www.ponyexpressperformance.com or just deactiviate the traction control everytime you start the car...

I programmed my chip to leave traction 'off' all the time so I don't have to remember to push the button.
As far as I'm concerned, traction control is completely unnecessary on any car.
You should feel it on a GM! By the time it actually kicks in you already have traction again! It also fels like someone is kicking the underside of the car when it kicks in.
Whenever possible, I shut this stuff off..
Modern technology is unfortunately causing a decrease in real "drivers".
Traction control this, torque management that.....make the car partial to understeer instead of oversteer because it more "predictable" (though less controllable).
If I had my way, nothing would have traction control, shift retard or anti-lock brakes.

The system is actually passive. It doesn't engage the brakes. As much as my Camaro-driving friends hate Chevy's active system, I don't think that's a bad thing though.

Incorrect. The system does utilize braking. Please see my prior post. Here are pages 111 & 112 from the owner's manual.

Traction control is gone on mine. Custom tuning can get rid of it so it will never come on. We did this so the fuel didn't get leaned out under boost and loss of traction.

That's great! Didn't know they made such a thing. Does it reverse the toggle? ex: pushing the button for the first time will engage instead of disengage?

It's so natural to me to push that damn button everytime I turn the car on, I'm afraid if I get this fix I'll be engaging it instead of the opposite!

That's great! Didn't know they made such a thing. Does it reverse the toggle? ex: pushing the button for the first time will engage instead of disengage?

It actually remembers the last setting the switch was at before you shut the car off. So if you turn the traction "off" then shut the car down, the next time you start it up it will still be "off".

It took about 20 minutes to install the module and the wiring instructions were clear enough that a 12 year old could wire this thing up. Plus, they were a top notch company to work with. Highly recommend them.
