More rear end help needed

I was putting my differential back together earlier and it didn't quite go as planned. I got everything together inside then realized i forget the s spring. No prob i thought so i took out the pin and tried to get the spring in.

Now for my question, is there and easy way to get the spring in. Do you do it before or after the 2 small gears. Also how tight should this be. Should i be able to spin the tires together. I always thought that i should spin one and the other goes the other way but i don't know for sure. Aly help would be greatly apprechiated.

To get the S-spring in, the spider gears need to be in and rotated to where the crosspin aligns. As far as the spring itself, I always just line it up and give it a good hard shot with a hammer. Once it starts in you can tap it around to where it needs to be. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get it started and watch your fingers. Out of gear,the tires should rotate in the same direction. If you have it in gear and try to rotate it , it should take quite a bit of pressure before the other side will try to spin in the opposite direction (especially if you just installed new clutches). It will get easier once it breaks in.

C-clips are really easy. With the crosspin removed, just push the axles in as far as you can,install the C-Clips and then pull the axle back out till it stops. Then you can install the crosspin.

When I did my rear rebuild with an F-150 "S" spring, I put two hose clamp on it. Put them toward the center so you can get the edge started, and tap it in until the first clamp is close. Cut it off, or undo it if can get to the screw. Then just tap it in until the 2nd clamp and do the same. That worked oretty good for me.
