Hey guys,

I've recently picked up an '02 GT 5spd. I know I need a short shifter (cause Ford accidentally put a semi-truck shifter in mine, LOL). I've done some reading on this site, and some research, and have decided to go with the MGW. My question is about the "shift stops". I have heard that these are not necessary since the TR-3650 comes with "shift stops" already built in. I'm wondering if they are even necessary to set for the MGW short shifter? Also, what exactly is the point of these "shift stops". My guess is to keep you from throwing it into the wrong gear while speed shifting?? but please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the input!!

The shift stops are there so that you don't overshift into a gear and possibly break a shift fork. Tremec itself does not recommend using the shift stops but Steeda, the maker of my shifter says to set the stops to .030". I listened to Steeda.

The TR-3650 does have internal shift stops so you will not need to use the ones that come with MGW. Tremec does not recommend using them and im pretty sure MGW doesn't either. I didnt use them with my MGW and have had no problems.

This is your answer. I followed MGW's instructions also. No stops.
I really like my MGW(switched from Pro50).

I didn't set the shift stops on my MGW. Love it... (one year old)

Don't the instructions state MGW contacted Tremec regarding this transmission and recommend NOT putting them on? I remember reading that when I installed mine. So since the engineers at MGW talked to the engineers at Tremec, I would believe them. So I didn't install mine.
