MSD Plug Wires

I just got a set of Red MSD Super Conductor Wires and they just dont seem right. They have a long straight end boot where it goes on the plug instead of an elbow boot and looks like they wont work on the passenger side without rubbing. Should I just return these to Summit and buy a different set altogether or is anyone out there using these ones with no problems?

Boo to MSD wires... I never had any luck with MSD products to be honest.

You can't go wrong with a set of FRPP 9mm wires. They are a direct fit and even come numbered so you can't screw up the installation.

I have heard something about being able to bend the straight end of these wires from another Mustang Forum, but why would they not be bent correct to start with?

I have had a set of FMS Blue wires on since 1998 so I figured it was time for an upgrade.

i have msd super conductor wires and they are fine. they arent a direct fit, but are good enough. One end has an elbow, the other is straight. mine dont rub on anything, and if they do, then its apparently not hurting them.

Did you bend the straight boots on the passenger side? Those 2 pollution control thermactor hoses run right behind the plugs on that side.

You can bend the straight boots and they should be fine. I bent mine at about a 45* angle, with no problems. I suggest you put some sparkgaurd(dielectric grease) on the end of the plugs when using msd wires. Good Luck

I am a big fan of Dielectric Grease, always use in ignition related things. That straight boot is quite long, may I ask where you put your bends, close to the ends, or back closer to the wire, or just in the middle? Thanks!

I bent them closer to the ends, right before (if you are coming up from the spark plugs) the raised MSD logo on the boots. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help! I will have to pull them back out of the box and take a look at them again and decide what to do with them.

They are MADE to bend.. I've been using them for years with no problem.

Are you guys kidding me? It says they're bendable right on the box. They're designed to be that way so you can bend them to not rub on anything. I find it funny how so many people bash MSD wires without even using them. They're one of the best wires out there for least ohms of resistance.

I am not bashing them, I am the one that posted this to try to find out whats up. I have the box in my hand and it doesnt say anything about bending the terminal boots.The most info it gives is the P/N and says Dist Cap "90 Degrees" and Spark Plug "M/A". I dont know what M/A is unless that means bendable.

It wasn't directed entirely at you even though it sounded that way. There's just been a lot of threads about plug wires around and lot's of guys say the MSD's are crap for no reason....it's really giving false info. About the box not saying they're bendable......hmm, I can't remember now, but somehow I knew that they were adjustable, I know it said somewhere. Did it come with any directions?

No, Unfortunately there were no directions. Its funny because I almost put that in the original post and then I thought, they are spark plug wires, who needs directions to install them. The only thing I could find was that "M/A" for the plug end of the boot and I havent the slightest idea what that stands for.

I read all over that box again and on the 1 side it was describing the 90 degree angle boots and underneath it had something small about Multi-Angle boots too, so I would say it is safe to assume that the M/A stands for Multi-Angle. Now will they hold the shape after you bend them and will you need boot shields or boot heat protectors now?

I got a set from Summit a few weeks ago. One of the straight ends had a gouge in the boot I guess from where they crimped it and one of the 90* boots split when I was fitting it to the cap on my work bench. I sent them back and got another set of FRPP wires. Dielectric grease is a must.

I have bought and tried MSD and I thought they were crap. That is just my opinion. I am not bashing the wires, I am just telling you that I don't like them because I had bad luck with them in the past. Geez! Some people like them and that is fine... I am not trying to say that no one should use them just because I don't like them. I just gave my opinion...!

BTW: I never knew that you could bend an MSD boot... That is pretty cool.
