I got a ticket this morning from a town cop stating that having aftermarket mufflers is illegal. That is the only reason he pulled me over. The Magnapacks on my car have been on for over two years and have passed inspection. He even told me not to spend the money to replace them because it really doesn't matter. He proceeded to give me a ticket and when handing me the ticket handed me the Officer's Copy as well.

What Should I do?

It depends on your state... some give a 98 decibel level and others, like the great state of IL say anything on your car other than factory is illegal just to make officer discretion marshal law.

I run Ultra flo's on my coupe.... nice and quite for cruising and still plenty loud at WOT. No drone is the best part.

My GT is stone stock... sounds good from the factory.

My coupe, when I was younger, got busted for having American thunder dumped, I was setting off car alarms with the pro/power chamber and the 2.5 Flowmasters I believe they were 2 chamber at best. I was cited for inadequate exhaust.

Wow, supa cop must have been on a mission if he skipped over your offroad X pipe.

Remind me not to move to RI or IL, lol.

Around here its not unheard of to be pulled over because the cop likes your exhaust and wants to know what it is. The main noise violations get handed out to ricers with fart cannons and wankstas with huge systems. The muscle car guys slip by un noticed even if the car is loud as hell. Guess its the mentality factor.

I would say there is no way to be absoulty sure about that one. I would actually talk to a court clerk in a about a week just to make sure. They will know if you actually got a ticket or not. And they won't just give you one if you didn't get one either.

you know I can't stand to see people get tickets for loud exhaust. we have guys on harley's that just kill your ears and nothing happens to them. and for some reason the harley guys haven't figured out how to set and idle screw because they have to sit rev the crap out of them at a light. I have never heard a car that compares to some of these harleys.

Don't take this guys advise unless you want to end up with a non payment of fines warrant.

The original tickets generally have 5 copies. 1. for the violator, 2. The department, 3. DMV 4. Court, and 5. Officers Copy.
There is record of it.

As for the ticket, you knowingly broke the law, suck it up and pay the fine.
If you are not willing to take responsibility for what you do then maybe you shouldn't do it and put the stockers back on.
Is it a stupid law sure is but there are lots of those out there. If you choose to knowingly break the law whether you agree with it or not) you get caught expect to pay the consequences.

It's not a moving violation so you won't get any points or go to the insurance.

And yes I have been cited for a noise violation.
Though in my case I had to ask the officer if it was my exhaust or stereo, he just laughed.

yea thats how it is here i usually get cops asking me to rev it up so they can hear it. but the rice always gets tickets.

I dunno what to tell you dude i guess just pay the ticket unless you really want to go to court and fight it. then you may want to find all your paper work on ur mufflers that state its carb legal or 50 state legal or something. but i would say its just easier to pay it.

doesn't matter if it's 50 state carb legal I am sure it would be the noise part of it.

I don't think the cop knew what he was talking about. If the ticket says illegal mufflers you could fight it since they're legal. Just pay the fine in case you go to prove it and they find out you don't have cats, and that could be a bigger fine, and that's a federal law.
