Mustang II front With Cobra IRS ?

This is the first front for me but I installed a IRS out of a Cougar in a 65 coupe a few yrs back. It was WAY TOO MUCH trouble to do again though. Hopefully This cobra will much easier. I have 3 67/68 fastbacks waiting for me to figure all this out. I bought a 2001 GT today I plan on robbing the drive train out of for this project too.

cobra irs just sucks yo.

I had it worse mistake.

Sold it and made money off of it.

Then my buddy gave me an almost 2 grand 8.8 he built for me. :)

The irs rear is just weak, prone to wheel hop, and heavy. Good for the wow factor that I was looking for but too much work for too little performance.

A 3 link with a solid axle is my next project.

Oh yea, I forgot The cobra is weak for guys who love to spend lots of money on engine parts ,, I guess I'm more into shock value then "BROKEN PARTS VALUE" If I wanted to build a drag car I would, But it wouldn't have a 8.8 in it now would it?

Just to let you know, the 03 Cobra IRS has held up well with lots of launches on slicks with cars putting 400+hp to the wheels. Kar Kraft sells them for 1200 or 1300 bucks, then the kit to swap them in from DVS is another 800-1100. karkraft.com and dvsrestorations.com.

The 03-04 Cobra IRS is actually stronger than you think. Many guys are running the 400-500hp range with them and no breakage. The only big problem, I've heard of, is wheelhop which comes with almost all IRS cars.

I know they hold up pretty good under normal conditions, But you know some guys, They can break anvils!! I've never broke one, of course I'm not trying to.

LOL true when your trying to race with something that isn't designed for drag of course your going to break it.

That's why I recomended a 3 link for all around performance. Handles very good and does drag if you'd like

Don't knock 8.8's they are very strong and efficient rears. I prefer over 9" rears.

If you want them stronger just get an eaton center with 31 spline or more.

Guy I know is running an eaton 8.8 with 40 spline t/a girdl and a rediculously huge 100mm turbo on a 347 dart block.
