Youve been busy today! I feel like senders are cheap enough to replace while you are there, but I do know others get enjoyment out of fixing original parts. Either way, good work. I will be doing this same thing very soon, but already included a new ring and sender in my order. Hoped to plan ahead for the inevitable, even though my fuel gauge seems to work fine as well.

I'd like to do a new sender, but really it comes down to original 30 year old part vs made-in-china stuff.

I'm kinda also thinking the devil I know is better than the one you don't. I don't really run the tank down below 1/2 tank these days, so is 4 gallons when needle shoes empty really a problem?

I'd hate to drop tank for Chinese sender issues down the road.

-------

I soaked more pb blaster on the ring today and will remove it tonight. We'll see how mangled it gets. New ring mandatory. New tank? Starting to lean that way

+1 on the Spectra tank. I bought a Glenn's Performance Sleeper tank and they added on their fittings to a Spectra tank. Nice stuff! I might have a spare OEM sender if you want to mess with it.

Got home and pulled the pump out. Was able to left a corner and snip the ring and get it all out.

Original fuel pump with mfg date of Feb-1987. Amazingly if the baffle is the cause of my fuel starvation issues, then this pump is still good to go. Obviously I'm swapping it out but it did go 30 years, 5 months.

Pretty clean inside the seal

Looks like my ground wire shorted to the pickup

Fuel tank ordered. $92 shipped from rock auto with the standard 5% discount.

Working the pickup a tad. Making progress cleaning it up. What do you think? Put a little more elbow grease into it and then make a decision?

As for the sender,

Found from a few sources that spec is ~22ohms full, and ~145ohms empty.

So I tested mine.

Full range up = 16 ohms
Full range down= 170 ohms.

So explains why my Guage reads empty when I still have a little gas left.
