Got my seat carpets from someone on a FB group. Guess bookface came in handy for once

CJ pony parts processed my return for the wrong kit they set out. I'm waiting for a tracking number for the right kit to be sent out.

So here's the point I second guess my decision.

I requested a color swatch of what I think is the same dark red suede the seat inserts have. I wanted to see how much of s match it was to various things.

So I pull out the swatch in my kitchen and I like the color

But then I take it to my work shop and under the fluorescent light laid out on the carpet it looks pink!

Those don't even look like the same color in these two pics.

And for final comparison...against red tweed.

Need to check it out in direct sunlight tomorrow

You've gotta think at some point that guy realized his mistake. I would imagine LRS would have gone back to the vendor and raise hell because they sold have shipped incorrect parts that cost them money. I know at my company, it's a big deal. So even if he never admitted it, I'd have to imagine he figured out the truth eventually.

My replacement order shipped today. Let's see what I get. I think o did my original order back on Nov 30.

Meanwhile this swatch is pissing me off because it looks pink! I'm just hoping the color that they actually used is different. I had to have requested the wrong swatch.

I agree.

I'll throw this swatch aside and wait for the actual kit to come in....hopefully this weekend. I have some free time Sun so I could start on the backseat and maybe get it in the car.

This is what I requested from their site. I'm only assuming it's the same because a it's listed as a Ford suede. I could be wrong

But that pic does kinda look like the seat photo...no?

Vs kitchen counter pic

No kit yet. While it shows "shipped" I don't have a tracking number. Site says willship from manufacturer...so I'm twiddling thumbs.

In the meantime, stripped down the donor rear seat

Also, since I am a sucker for details...painted the rear hatch latch hardware

Anyone need a red tweed cover? Going on eBay for a limited period of time before I trash it. Other that one cig burn it cleaned up nice

So I busted one of the power mirror covers while r&r my door panels and mirrors.

On eBay, a used one was $15, and a pair of repros was cheaper.

This is the first repop I feel is equal to the OEM part

Daniel Carpenter Reproductions

Left is new. Texture is spot on and has the foam back. Color looks different in pic but it is the same

So I scored a set of black 1979-1984 belts. Supposedly they were removed from a 1983 years ago and stored.

Got them today. Damn, they look as if they have never been buckled....literally

Compared to the 87-89 belts, a tiny bit shorter and no sleeve.

Not a fan of the red stitching, but not the end of the world.

Problem? They are too nice. I feel guilty installing these. These really are pristine, new belts pretty much.

Anyway here's the second problem. My original red retractors are still in place. I can't get these bolts out. I've tried breaker bars and now two different impact guns and no luck. I've busted 3-4 of my T50 bits so far. I've tried heat and pen fluid. Now I'm slowly rounding out the inside of the bolt head with better quality t50 torx drivers

So, the black belts stay in the box until I get these out. I don't want to drill yet in case I mess it up. At least now they are functional

Some more stuff. Busted one of my door cups during my door refurb, so ordered some Ford tooling made repops. I'm happy with these

Compared to originsl

F3 part number...also molded in 2000. Unsure of that's the actual date they were made, or the last date on the molds used before Ford shut down production.

Also, another NOS grab. Got a passenger inner parking light. Currently one lamp away from a full set of 6. Just need a passenger headlight. E9ZZ-13007-A

Right now, the LRS repros are holding down the fort. Given the car is garaged and not driven in the rain/night, I'll leave them even after conpleteing the set.

Don't this we are quite at the point for this yet however

Back to the good stuff.

Starting to chip away at my list for my engine mods. I figure buying a few things here and there will help break up the cost over the next few months.

Only plans for this winter at MAss air swap and the TMI seats. Maybe new springs (I want car lower)

Speaking of the TMI seats. No shipment confirmation just yet, and still haven't found a pair of donor 84-89 Sport seats just yet.

Kinda been mulling this over. Think I'll try something different.

Explorer upper plenum, 70mm egr and 65mm TB with a stock HO engine plate on top. Very OEM look after I repaint it. This will be on top of its original lower which I had tmoss port for me.

The opening on the explorer is 65mm, which leaves a pretty big step with the 70mm egr spacer, so I'll blend that transition. A 70mm TB is on the "keep an eye out" list.

I really like the look of a detailed explorer upper

My '93 cobra intake needs refinishing after 20 years on the car. I'll stick it on the shelf for now.

I know a TFS intake would better match my combo, but for now I want to stay with the GT40 family. Maybe down the road...

Settle on the intake you like the most and send the combo out to have it extrude honed. From there, work your magic and finish it like it appears in your head.

Isn't EH expensive? $500ish for a gt40 upper? Last thing I want to do is have $1k tied up into an explorer intake. Not sure it's even necessary with the TFS170s. IIRC they flow ~250cfm and with the tmoss lower I should be right around there

Edit: found a a thread where someone EH their cobra upper and lower and got 281- 296cfm on the upper and 294- 305cfm on the lower. That's already exceeding the specs of my TFS170s so is there any reason to do it on an N/A setup?

Not sure. What do they flow hand ported?

Lowers are in the high 190s from the factory. IIRC Tom stated in a few threads ~250cfm after porting?

I believe the TFS170s are spec'd to 251cfm intake and 193 exhaust.

In my mind it will work well, just trying to decide on a cam. Still not 100% sold on the TFS1. Now I'm debating an XE264HR or xe266HR

I don't know if anyone has ever flow tested the uppers only. IIRC all testing was done on the lower, which is the bottle next. My curiosity is if you take the lower out of the equation by porting/EH, is there one of the upper gt40s that will outshine the others?

I remember reading that the Explorer upper plenum had more internal volume than the other. I wonder if on a truely unrestricted lower, that would make a difference.

Started stripping the upper. Round 1 was with the nasty aircraft stripper, and rd two is a good overnight soaking in Citristrip.

I have two paint schemes in mind

One is to mimic the stock HO manifold with argent paint and repainting the HO intake plate like OEM. Basically go back to OEM...but with a ported explorer intake.

Second it to match it to a set of Ford valve covers, black with the machined ribs. I'd paint the entire upper black but sand and polish the fins and then clear it all. Black EGR spacer and black TB.

basically match these

What paint did you use Mustang5L5?

Haven't painted it yet. Still soaking in Citristrip to strip the paint off. Currently researching what paint works best and I think I'm just going to use VHT high temp Al paint, with a high temp clearcoat on top.

I'm duplicating this for the intake plate. I have one sandblasted, so my plan is to sand the top a bit now, and then clean it up, spray it black, and then resand the top to give it this final appearance

I also intend to cut off the boss on the side of the plenum, and clean up all the vac line tubes that were explorer specific and drill/tap for the OEM vacuum tree tube.

I checked this AM and the Citristrip is working quite well. It's slow, but that's fine as it's non-toxic and doesn't have the strong vapors like the aircraft stripper. I can work in my slop sink in the basement. Tonight, i'll scrub and remove all the loose paint, and then reapply another coat on certain areas and repeat.

Chuckman said:
This right here? Yeah, do that. More elbow grease on the iac and tb though.....

Egr, TB and IAC will all be painted to match.

Also, after talking with Tmoss in another forum, there's some cleaning up of the upper transition where it bolts to the lower that I intend to do. I also need to blend the explorer's 70mm intake opening to match my 75mm EGR spacer.

A little elbow grease here, but end result should be nice.

As for my 93 cobra intake. No idea what i'll do with it. Keeping it for now.

Why don't you want to keep your Cobra intake on the car?

Same reason I took the '97 Cobra wheels off my car. I've been starting at it for 20 years...time to look at something new. I've been kinda liking the look of explorer intakes made to look stock, so lets give it a shot. Plus I have the luxury of the explorer intake sitting on my bench and some time to kill this winter (since my TMI seats are still on backorder) so I can put some elbow grease into the explorer upper to keep me busy. Trying to avoid projects other than focusing on getting the rest of my engine parts together and getting the motor put together soon.

Since the cobra intake has been on the car for 20 years, it's looking a little rough these days, so it would need to be stripped and repainted anyway. rather just do that later on when it's off the car and I can take my time. I can always put it back on down the road. Upper swaps are a 30 min job.
