Finally.

Looks like I have something to do tonight

So I got it mostly buttoned up. The ARP clutch bolts I bought didn’t fit. Wrong thread pitch. Must have gotten the earlier year as they had the shoulder on the bolt. Used the ford bolts instead.

My clutch fork pivot was toast. So new one on order

So sinc I couldn’t finish, I decided to test fit the 83-85 and 85-93 bell to see if there were any differences.

As far as I can tell, there aren’t. Clearance on the clutch is tight, but exactly the same. Spinning the flywheel around doesn’t really show any difference. I’ll do a thread later with some clay and measure the exact clearance.

Btw...it’s tight. Not sure if the new flywheel pushes the clutch out a tad, but I have less than 1mm of clearance with both bells. I can’t even slide a penny between the pressure plate and bellhousinh here. I’m curious of it was always like that or the flywheel is thicker? Wonder if I should clearance here? Prob wouldnt hurt to just massage it with a grinder....just in case.

No idea. I never checked the clearance with the other flywheel.

It doesn’t hit but it’s damn tight. Tight enough to make me want to kiss it with a grinder

Edit: guess it is common.

And like i said, both generations appear to be the same. I’ll stuff some clay in there and measure to prove it.

And wrapped up the engine. Since the pressure plate was close, I figured I’d just clearance the bell while I was here.

A few mins with the grinder made some extra breathing room

Tough to see, but about 0.100” clearance now

Gonna leave the trans off for now. It’s in my basement out of the way. Figure I’ll need the space in the garage for what’s up next.

Frame Rails ins't going to be cheaper but when it's finished it'll all be worth it.

I know. I still have plenty of little things to nickle and dime me. Need engine mounts, vac lines, hoses, an A/C condenser, hardware, etc etc etc.

Right now, i'm trying to figure out how i'll label everything and keep track of what wire goes where and routing and such. I started pulling some stuff from the bay, like the charcoal canister and some items I know very well where they go.

I'm starting to realize this project is likely going to roll through the summer and possibly fall.
