So, I will mini tub Doby. Thank to everyone and the help you have given me.
I'm going for a 315 tucked up in.
@madmike1157 has been a tremendous help, and will have to be more as I get ready to do it.
It'll be the beginning of next month before I can afford the coilover Kit, that'll be where it begins.
I'm going to get doby's engine bay finished and prep to paint the outside. I will probably try to POR 15 the undercarriage too.
Then off to the shop for paint! Yay For Dave!!
(dancing banana for each of the kids).
Once it's back in the garage, then I will get after it. I'm tentatively giving myself two weeks for the tubbing.
After that, finally I will be buying the flywheel and clutch and hopefully throwing a motor in Doby and pretend I own a car and not a bottomless money pit!

Thanks for you build too brother, it helped to push me off that cliff. You are using the same wheels I will be using and I lusted after yours after seeing that picture.

Be very careful choosing your back spacing I almost wish I would've went with a 6" or even a 5.5" back spacing!!

I'll look into that closer as I get towards the end, I'm running some POS wheels until then. I know the back spacing was 6.5 with the stock rear end and I removed 2.5 from that, hence the 4" backspacing.

Don't do any hacking until you have wheels and tires. This way you can measure 55 times before you cut. Make sure you know exactly which ends you're going to run. I used a 9" strange end (1.3"). You also have to take in account axle offset mine was 2.5 per side. Plus you want to make sure if you're going to run disc brakes you have to figure in hat thickness or face thickness. I used a wilwood kit with just plain faced rotors and 4 piston calipers and I had to figure in another
.18" per side. So just absolutely check EVERYTHING!

Too late, rear end is done. I'm using my drums right now, five lug. Already have the axles and everything else for the rear (except coilovers now!). Thanks for the advice though, it'll work and I will measure several more times before ordering those pretty wheels.

BTW, I'm thinking of 17" wheels in the back just so I can have a little side wall. Not sure of the width, before the mini tubbing crap, I was thinking of their 9.5" wheels.

That has all changed with this mini tub thing. I would like to run 315's. Not sure of the aspect ratio, brain hasn't gotten to there yet.
Hell, I'm not even sure about the 17"ers anymore. To be resolved later.....
You don't have to shorten the axles. Depending on back spacing you can make stock axles work. My current set up uses a 1/4" spacer on the back. If I tub it I can remove the spacer and the wheel will sit just inside the fender lip instead of flush, which to me is ideal.

I originally narrowed the rear end without thought to tubbing. I wanted deep dish style wheels because I like that look. It is narrowed, already have strange axles narrowed and everything.
I even added the brackets for coilovers just in case I was crazy later on.
So, rearend is done, mini tubbing just makes it more interesting.
