K, cool beans.Anytime you can put a bearing on by warming it it's better. This keeps you from cocking it, and tearing up the fit while forcing it on. Usually when it is being started is when it cocks, then the sleeve slips and hits the cage resulting in said damage. You can heat a bearing with an induction heater, (expensive tool) or in an oven. Never put a flame on a bearing. The shock heat stress relieves the rollers and ruins them. The press is a great tool for removal, and sometimes just has to be used for installation, but great care must me used to avoid damage.

K, thanks for the help Allen.Typically, it's not necessary. You can expand the bore of a bearing several thousanths with heat. We never use cold unless we are shrinking a sleeve to install.
