You would not believe how many times i have read about foxbody hood fly ups in the last 25 years too fn many i finally put hoodpins on mine after the latch would let go and then i caught it on time on the safety catch 3 or 4 times i figured my luck would run out. HOODPINS

I had no idea how prevalent it was, but it looks like it's a fairly common occurrence.

My first mustang had the hood fly up...luckily, I was going slow enough where it didn't crush the cowl too bad. Actually, took the wiper motor and arms out and the body shop fixed the slight dent with a dolly and rubber mallet. Now, I use hood pins faithfully. It cost me 75 bucks in 1999.

Anyone ever consider a hood lock instead of hood pins?

That's old school 70's tech, no? Is that the ones that they used have the hey lock in the fender?

I just called in a claim to Grundy.

I thought about it last night and when I got home and i decided that I should make sure that the top still aligns properly. Fortunately, it does. Unfortunately, the drivers window does not. It seems the windshield frame is now bent and prevents the window from closing all of the way, leaving a gap between the top and the glass. The car is insured for $5k agreed value and I think this just might total it out relatively.

... I had the same issue. Lock in the passenger side top latch, then grab the windshield frame on the driver side and "adjust it" it may take some force. Latch the driver side and try the window, repeat until it fits.

It used to be marketed as the Chapman Lock back in the day (that's my understanding).

I wouldn't use it as an antitheft device. I would just use it to secure the hood while keeping the stock appearance.

I am not going to touch it until the insurance company looks at it, but thank you for that one, I may need it before this is all over.

My top did that when it was cool outside...the vinyl would tighten on the top frame a bit. I'd have to grab the convertible top frame and pull it down to the windshield then lock the handles once the j hooks reached the right spot. Sometimes it was a real PITA. It wasn't crashed or twisted. Guess we're just trying to make sure your not having a normal vert issue. My car did it every fall.

Nah, this is like my 7th 'vert. The windshield frame is bent. It has nothing to do with the top. Also, it worked fine before the hood incident and this is Florida, we don't have the weather swings here, it's always hot as hell. Thanks though.

Not to mention, I have paid the insurance companies enough over the years. It's OK if they have to keep up on their end of the bargain once in a while.

The insurance company is going to send me a check for $3200, so I think I am going to either sell or part this one out and buy an altogether better car. I paid $3k for the car and put about $600 into it. I can probably sell the car for $2-2500 or part it out for like $3k. So at the minimum, I should have $5500 (plus I will sell my trailer for $300 that I don't use anymore) to buy a better car that is ready to run rather than keep on this project. This decision didn't come lightly, but the car looks MUCH better in the pictures than it really is.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

Heck yeah, drop that like a bad habit. Sounds like you will be off to a good start on the next car.

Gone. When the dust settled, I made $1500 to install a clutch and flywheel. Not bad. On the hunt for a replacement. Gonna look at a 94 Cobra tomorrow and a couple of Miatas. Yeah, I said Miata.

Lol in all seriousness a 5.0 miata is a monster and the 5.0 fits under the stock hood. With a quite exhaust it would be a sweet sleeper.

Oh and what's your price range? I'm only one town over from you, Plant City. I can keep an eye out for you.
