It's getting closer to summer and I need a little more speed. If you guys read through my sig, you'd probably be able to guess better than I could as far as the power I currently have. I'd prob. guess in the neighborhood of 325 or so ponies, (edit: based on the other cars I've had such as a stock 96 cobra and 95 gt with full boltons, but no H/C/I swap), and I'd really love to get close to that 400 number.

I had thoughts of a different performance intake, the one I have now is a ported 94-95 cobra intake with gt-40 lower. Any suggestions on maybe swapping that out for something? Any way to add 50+ hp's with an intake/tb swap?

That intake probably is a choking point for airflow, but I don't know if it will get you 50 more hp. Also, ditch that alphabet cam and get a custom ground one. That plus a better intake will probably get you at least 50 hp. Don't forget to upgrade those injectors too.

I totally agree with Chris. Match it all up better and I bet you could get what you want. You need to PM a guy like Rick91GT. He can tell you what to ditch and what to keep.

Where's a good place to get a good custom cam and what type of $$ am I looking at for that?

For gears, the 3.55's already seem to wrap it out pretty quick, I'm not completely sure I'd want be shifting any more than I already am, unless the intake and cam would help the higher RPM power
Would 3.73's really have that noticable of difference in performance?

Yes I think they would. For example, out of 4th you are shifting at 120 instead of 130+..from there you can tell it would scoot up the rpm much faster.

with a 351 you can safely run a 125 shot.....use a wet setup and your fine just make sure your motor is in good running order and maybe keep your mixture a little rich ...and your golden i tell you once you start spraying your hooked

Having Ed grind me a custom cam. Im going to get as close to 400 RWHP as possible N/A I hate nitrous its cheating. Anyone can throw tons of Nitrous at an engine and make good power but doing it N/A says a lot more. I have a few more ideas up my sleeve after the cam and Intake swap.

I agree with everyone here about the custom cam and better intake combo. When you do this though your going to need a bigger injector and a custom tune. You are probably getting close to the 24lb injectors limits the way it is now.

I agree. I would LOVE to spray mine. I don't like the idea of a $40-$50 bottle re-fill. Especially if I don't have the $50 to spare. (Would be REALLY bad meeting-up with a guy I'd beaten the night before, when I did still have juice. Unless I managed to take some $$$ from HIM to pay for the bottle.)

Sweet sassy molassey, this is a classic case of 302 parts making 302 power. Ditch the e-cam, the 1.72s, the cobra intake, and I don't know what you're running for edelbrock heads but ditch those unless they are Victor Jrs or HEAVILY worked RPMs.

A custom grind cam and a Victor EFI intake / 75mm TB would be my first order of business. You'll have to change injectors and MAF... if you don't have to already.

Before I get all fired up and start spending your money, what is your budget?

Oh, I dunno, I'll probably be getting about a grand back for my tax refund, and I don't really see why I wouldn't want to spend most of that plus another $500 or so in slush money I've got, so around $1500 maybe? Problem is, I don't have the time or expertise to do much of the tooling myself, so I'll be paying labor as well.

The guy I bought the car from did all the engine mods to date, but I know there's tons more potential, it really doesn't feel much faster than a 302 sometimes. What's the most damage I can do with $1500 (including labor)? What would you do first?

First off Id ditch the Cobra intake for something a lot better.

Do you have to pass emissions? TFS Box R intake / Victor EFI intake and a 75mm / 70mm throttle body to start.

At that point you'll be pushing the 24s to the limit so you'll have to start in on a tune, MAF, and injectors.

Say 1000 for the intake and TB brand new plus 500 for the install right there. An intake and TB install can be accomplished with a Craftsmen socket set, shop vac, some screw drivers, and a timing light so you you could save the 500 and put that towards some 42 pound injectors and a lightning MAF so that you have room to grow into your 351 down the road.
