Progress Thread My 89 Lx Gets The Trickflow Top End Treatment Etc....etc.

I finally took a proper walk around video, had some time to drive it tonight, finally took a timing gun to it and it was quite retarded, advanced it to 14 or 15, I can't see worth a ****, and man did it like that !! I'm gonna need some higher octane fuel, there's garbage in it now cause I'm cheap, but it really came alive now at the lower rpms. It doesn't stall at all but it is on the rich side but no engine light yet maybe I'm just not used to having the cats removed, still gotta mess with exhaust, I think I still have a leak and the tails are crooked as ****. Gonna get the 275 rear tires put on this week and hopefully drop that nose down by the end of the month.

Junk gas? The octane rating of fuel doesn't make it good or bad as far as quality goes. However, getting fuel at a Top Tier gas station is a good thing (Costco, Shell, Chevron, 76, etc.). I'm a believer in running the most timing you can with quality 87 octane because 87 is the quickest burning fuel which is what you want for out SBF street cars that aren't running high compression or boost. Just my opinion of course. I'm running 14* on 87 FYI and it made a noticeable improvement.

BTW, nice freakin car bro! Enjoy it!

It's not only from a cheap place but it's old too, Haha, I'll get some fresh gas in it and see what happens, I'm not even sure what the heck it's actually at because I couldn't see the marks that well, I have a mark at 10 because that's what it was on when I took it apart. I'm up beyond that but I'll take a better look.

275 's getting mounted up, then it's time to see what rubs ?? Haha

Well I guess everything you buy now a days is just a piece of :poo:, first tire mounts up no problem, second one after two hours just won't seat, doesn't make any damn sense. Grease , soap, pb blaster, re mounting, 60lb of air pressure, nothing gets it mounted right. I guess Sumitomo tires just suck ass.

Cover the bead(both sides) in wheel bearing grease- messy but has worked many times for me

Sorry about your tire. I will say that the 275's should fit with no rubbing as you have stock fox length axles. I had them on my old 85 and had no rubbing. As for the off road H (X) pipe, I can feel your pain. That was one of the only mods I ever did that I almost immediately un-did. I simply can not stand the strong exhaust smell. It gets on your clothes, in your interior, and there is really no benefit to it.

Odd thing is , it's actually aired up, it's not leaking but the damn side wall won't seat all the way. I've had big ass truck tires that won't air up because the sidewall wont meet the rim and you do the old explosion trick. This is just ridiculous!

You try breaking the tire back down and turning it on the rim? Try using the breaker bar on the opposite side of where it won't bead and push down on that side (with the bar) while airing it up. I'm guessing while you are airing it up you are taking the valve core out right?

If those things don't work-lots of lube/grease and wrap a ratchet strap around it

Take that sucker to a tire store and let them fck with it brother. Doing it on your own is cool, but I won't think one bit less of you for not getting the bead to set up on that wheel.......:loser:

It's a repair shop that does all the work on my fleet trucks, he's been doing this for 30 years and can't get it on, he mounted the 37's on my Super Duty no problem, but a stinkin ass Mustang tire we can't get on? Took it off, put it back on, used the pry bar to air it up in a different spot, greased it like a pig, put it in the sun, beat on it with a rubber BFH, the damn thing just won't go on !

Only thing we didn't try was a ratchet, and yes valve core is out, maybe we'll give the ratchet a try on Monday.

Of course I'm just sayin' here, and OH GAWD you should hope I'm wrong, but you do have the right size tires, right?
