Roush My car is dying - time for an engine rebuild

Well, I've finally decided to rip the heart out of my schizophrenic car and rebuild it. There are three reasons for this: its going thru about a quart of oil every few weeks, a gallon of water/anti-freeze in about two months, and it won’t hold a freaking tune for longer then a week and then starts pinging horribly. After recent work and tunes, the car runs great but then ends up going south within a week and now it’s so bad that 100 octane fuel isn’t enough to stop it pinging.

The problem with the pinging is that I was a DJ for 5 years and I can’t hear high pitched noises very well. When its pinging load enough for me to hear it, and it is now, its pretty damn bad.

I’ve spoken with Joe at chicane and he’s going to tear into it for me and find what’s wrong. My guess is shot rings, maybe some damage to the pistons from all the past pinging, and maybe a head gasket given all the coolant loss. But I’m far from an expert. Whatever it is, the car needs help. I just hope its not some electrical gremlin, those are a bitch to find and fix.

The motor is already built so I’m hoping I don’t need to replace too much in it. This is kind of what I was thinking: if reusable, I’ll stick with the saleen crank, rods, cams, etc. in it, install new pistons (Manley dish) and rings, 55lbs injectors, 3” pulley (18lbs of boost!), and a BAP.

My goal is 600hp at the flywheel (525rwhp?) and to get rid of the diesel sound.

Sound reasonable?

Good news is you're getting it fixed! I've spoken to Joe via telephone and sounds like a sharp guy so I'm sure he'll git-r-done. I would have him replace every seal, bearing, and part that makes him feel unsure. It might be a big tab now, but to do it twice would be down right silly.

How many miles do you have on the car? I remember you from the Saleen Show this year. Didn't you just finally get it tuned by power train dymamics and get the stumble fixed you had been talking about? These engines are so fragile it seems once you have a supercharger. Think you got a bad tune?
How expensive is it to get engine rebuilt? Joe does everything first class he
will get you a good motor. Good Luck
