my car will not really do a burnout

my 96 gt(auto trans) with PI motor,shift kit,410 gears, is kinda sluggish from a dead stop,however once the RPMs build up it has power to the point of chirping second pretty nice,and pulling pretty good from there on,but from a dead stop at a stoplight and flooring it in first I cant spin the tires.
I havent tried to power break it yet.

there is no CEL on.

could it be that I really just need to tune the computer for the PI motor ?

If you are really trying to push it, yes on the tune. The NON-PI tune is not going to use as much timing as a PI tune would. Then there's the issue of the PI swap and the raised CR. I suspect that the PI swapped will ping if the standard PI timing curve is used because of the higher compression ratio.

Not to mention that the load tables are going to off.

Consider also that the shift points may need adjusting as well. With the 4.10's, first gear will run out quicker. However, it takes the same amount of time for the transmission to perform a shift. Hence the need to lower the shift points so that the shift is completed on time.

and a perhaps a slightly higher stall converter.

If it were me, the converter would be the last thing tried.

FWIIW, my 2003 Mustang GT convertible automatic 3.27 rear end won't smoke the tires from a stand still either. On a cool day, it may scratch the tires from a start and in second.

My 2000 GT manual WILL from a standing start and in second (T45 with 3.27's).

OBTW, did you ever get your gear install the way you wanted?

thanks for the reply.

in terms of the gears,I got what I thought was a satisfactory tooth contact, demonstrated by the marking compound,the pattern seemed centered both ways,root to top and heel to toe,especially on the coast side.These gears(410s) were out of a 2009 GT which the owner ordered as an option from the factory,however he ended up going with a power adder,hence the drop to 373s.
anyway,there is still a wah wah noise,from around 40MPH all the way down to like 5MPH,but heres the thing,when I originally installed the other set of 410s back in the spring,while the car was up on the jackstands I bought and installed some almost new tires,and im not sure if it is just tire noise or
not.They are fuzion HR1s The noise kinda sounds like one of those 4x4s with the big tires.The noise totally disappears at speeds above 45MPH with no noticeable vibration either.

ive had these 2 sets of gears in and out like 6 times now with various pinion shims,and the noise is always there.I think what was throwing my pattern off before was due to the fact that I was using a hogged out inner pinion bearing for mock up.Now with these newer gears I have been pressing the bearing on and off for setup purposes.I have been dialing in between 0.008-0.011 for backlash.

im gonna do a test this morning by temporarily inflating the tires to 50 psi and taking a test drive.I think this may be able to tell me if it is the tires or not.

Your sig confuses me: "96 GT bone stock for now." but you have a PI swap and 4.10s...

Before you put the PI motor in did you freshen the cam chains, tensioners and/or guides at all? Do you know the history of that engine: Has it ever had that sort of work done to it?

I ask because if the cam timing is retarded (say, by a tooth), you may see a drop in low-RPM torque production but an increase in high-RPM power.

What width and brand of tires are you running? Sticky tires will not spin as easily as rock-hard rubber. Any suspension/chassis mods (upper or lower control arms?) to reduce wheel hope aid traction and reduce wheelspin.

sorry but I never updated my sig. the motor was from a salvage yard,and it was out of a 2002 GT with 75 K on clock.Thats all I know,however from what I noticed when I was swapping out the timing cover,intake,and valve covers,it sure looked to be bone stock,still had the original air filter box.

the tires are fuzion HRIs,and I dont have any suspension/chassis mods.
dont get me wrong,the car has plenty of power,just not right off the line.

I have been thinking of doing a t-45 swap,but I cant seem to find a good used one.at least not yet anyway.

you should be able to break loose with a non pi motor with 4.10 gears! me bone stock 5.0 with 3.73 will light them up from a dead stop. need to check all the simple things first.
1 plugs and plug gap (54)
2 wires
3 fuel pressure close to 35psi
4 air filter
5 mass air flow sensor (clean it)
if your car is a stock engine you should have know issue breaking loose. but if you have sticky or soft tire this will make it harder. try this start the car let it warm up put it in drive with your foot firmly on the brake apply the trottle slightly so you can start to fill the car wanting to move and hold it there and listen and feel the engine as its under a load. if the sound verys or you can tell that it is missing slightly you proably have a plug,wire coil pack breaking down and your loosing that power. so st low end your engine is not where it should be but not really noticeable at higher rpms. i have this issue all the time at work with our trucks. did dont think that if you have a bad coil pack ,wire or plug then your mil light will come on because thats not always the case trust me. i hope this helps.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your car. My automatic 2001 GT had trouble breaking them loose from a dead stop when it was naturally aspirated, and the car was running 13.6s at the time. Our cars have really tight torque converters, and not much low-end torque, so this behavior is expected.

Try revving to five grand in nuetral and then slamming it in drive should do a nice burn if the trans survives

You might be right but he's got 4.10s in the back, not 3.27s or 2.73s.

Do a J-mod, ditch your spare tire and jack, get a Steeda timing adjuster or a handheld programmer and advance your timing, enjoy nice, long burnouts.
