Im not a pompus ass, really Im not. maybe a touch alarmist. apologies all around. And if it was just Ryan that I was referring to, and not the majority of the 20's and unders that I come across in real life, I would have kept my fingers in check.

It's the internet. I don't think it's really all that vital. I have a degree in engineering and have written many papers in my day but when I post online i make tons of spelling and grammar mistakes. When i'm out with my friends, i use slang terms all the time. At work however it's a different story.

BTW, your first sentence was a run-on sentence, you spelled schools wrong, "any one" should be anyone and you forgot apostrophes in can't and I'm.

When I turned 16 I had a 83 Z28 with "high output" 305. It wasn't that quick, running 15 flats mostly thanks the the 3.73s it had out back. But it was enough. I thought I would baby that car around and whatnot, well, the day I got my license, that evening I pegged the speedo at 85. Next day me and a buddy took it for a drive around some twisties. 16 year old + quick car + curvy road = disaster. I should've got the hint a few times when the old tires wanted to give way on a few curves. Hell no, I was too ignorant. Came up on a corner that didn't appear sharp until you were in it. Got loose, thanks to my inexperience I locked the brakes, skidded right off the road. Dropped off an easy 3-4 foot ledge and smacked right against a tree. Ruined a extremely nice car. Got the mustang for cheap and I've driven a little smarter since. I know you want some power and whatnot, but your gonna do more than you think you are. Been there. I'm not saying don't do it, but get a little experience under your belt before you add some power. Not saying I'm all that experienced, but I know enough now to have possibly saved my camaro from the backend getting out of line and spinning. Personally I'd just save some more money, build a motor right, and get some good experience driving. Noones ever as good as they think they are when they first start. Don't take this as bashing, just as first hand experience. I'm 18 by the way so I'm still young too, and even though myns not all that quick it has come close to getting away from me a couple times. Here's what i would do at your age. Forget about go-fast V6 parts. They are a waste of money if you will eventually do a 5.0. Focus on setting up the chassis nicely. Do some suspension mods, maybe a 5-lug conversion with big Cobra brakes, stiffen the car up with subframe connectors, get some nice fat 17" wheels and 245 rubber under there. Swap the 7.5" open for a nice 8.8 t-lok with 3.73's in it.

Show your dad you care about stopping and handling as well. A powerful 5.0 in a V6 vert is a scary thought and the stock brakes won't handle the power and the car's suspension won't either.

Then when you finally can toss a 5.0 in, you'll have a solid foundation already set up.

Don't sweat it guys. The reaction wasn't what I expected, but Im calling "my fault" for bein a tight ass. (step1.open mouth step2. insert foot.)
I think after Ryan talked with his dad the last time, he understands now that his dad wants him to safe, but also have some fun.
I was never into cars in school, got a 93 calypso coral notch 4 banger when I was 22. I have had nothing but 5.0's and 4.6's for the last 11 years. I dont know much about motors, besides what I've read in the mags, so I'm on the forums to learn as much as I can and hopefuly make some new friends in the process.Obviously, that statement isnt the way to do either.

i wouldn't mind starting with that but my dad is well kinda if it works it don't need replaced since he has gotten older.

so the V6 dose have a 7.5 rear in it?

if i did go and do a 5 lug swap with a 8.8 rear i would most likely be doing this at a Buddy's house. he like 2 years older then me and his brother has a 84 mustang (hes 22 ) that he did up really nice. runs 11's on pump gas. on motor no s/c or nos.

anyways. how long you think it would take to do? considering that he is really good with cars. you think it could be done in a weekend working 7 hours or so a day on it?

what all would i need. besides the 8.8 rear 5 lug axles and then the stuff for the front? anyone got a list of what they bought when they did this?

could be worse man.
when i turned 14, my grandpa bought me a 68 chevelle SS...we spent the next year having it painted and the interior done. i just knew i was gonna have a bad@ss ride when i turned 16. then my dad told him it was way to much car for me. and he sold it. then i got a 63 fairlane....dad bought the cam and lifter kit for it, we installed it and he decided i didnt need that either. i ended up with a 85 dodge charger....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I think you should sell the car, save and buy a v8 mustang. No conversion. The conversion is in dept and you need to switch the k frame as well in the v6, ot to metion a lesser resale value if you try to sell it. I was going to do a 4 cyl swap and decided it was not worth it being I could get a nice fox for like $4000

Doing the neutral drops wouldn't help your case any for getting a 5.0... I think this is what your dad means when he says not to get in any trouble with the V6.

I got my first V8 at 16. It was a 1986 GT with a whopping 215 horsepower. Looking back, that was way too much car for a 16 year old just learning to drive.
