My heater isnt getting warm.

as the title says my heater doesnt get very warm, it has a new heatercore and a new heaterbox i know for a fact that there is nothing in it. When i first turn on the heater it is hot than after about 20 seconds it is luke warm and eventually gets cold, i dont know what the problem is the door is opening and closing, just fine. Would not having the restrictor in the heater core hose cause this? It has a 192* t-stat and runs 198-200 constantly.Any ideas are appreaciated.

I put a restrictor in which is a ....socket... dont worry about that. Anyways it didnt help it still doesnt blow hot it doesnt even blow luke warm. I checked my cooling system and it doesnt have any pressure on it, shouldnt it have pressure? would this affect my heater, the hoses are getting hot and it seems that you can feel the antifreeze running through the hoses. Would switching the hoses fix anything? I need a heater it is getting down in the 30's tonight and i dont feel like freezing my nads off.

You could have a couple air bubbles in the cooling system.. You should try to bleed the system of air before you spend any money.

check your blend door operation,I think on your year there is a actuator that has a plastic arm and it gets brittle and breaks so cool air is always blowing out.

I say its the door too. Are both heater hoses hot also, they should be.

Both hoses are hot, the door works fine i got down there and operated it manually it was working, all the bubbles are out of the system it bad been bled numerous times. The coolant is full i just checked it yesterday. I am lost for ideas.

If all of that stuff is working and you are not getting any heat out of the system that only leaves your Heater Core... You should check to see that the core is also heating up (with hot coolant passing through the core)

yeah,theres no other possibilities.......make sure the knob isnt broken and it is turning the selector,also move the doors like you did,the deforst/vent door and the blend door just to make sure.Like it was said,if the core is plugged,you would have other problems

so how would i unplug the heatercore, the doors all work correctly i even moved them by hand. So how exactly would i check and make sure the heatercore is getting warm?

both hoses should be hot,other then that,im stumped.Only other thing would be a stuck open t/stat.

Is it pretty common for a t-stat to stick, that would explain why it has no pressure, takes forever to warm up 25 minutes+, and has no heat.

The most common cause of a heater not blowing warm or hot air is a bad thermostat (even new t-stats can be bad). They cost like $12 bucks. I'd change that before I did anything else.

Why would you restrict coolant flow to the heater core? I can not figure out why you would do this? It would impede the normal operation of the heating system.

The factory did this to lessen the pressure that the heater core sees to lower the rate of blown heater cores. As far as the temperature of the cabin air, it should not affect it.

OK, bringing this back from the dead:

My heat blows warm, but not hot. Last year it was just cold, and I backflushed the heater core, and it blew hot. This year it sucks again, but I already meagerly back-flushed it when changing the water pump and t-stat, and it's still only warm, and by the time it hits my face, it's cool. It's also a conertible, so that doesn't help.
I let the car each operating temp, but not enough to make the top rad. hose very hot.
Of the two heater core hoses, the one closest to the passenger side of the car was not as warm as the one closer to the drivers side.
Does this indicate that the heater core is plugged/dirty again?
When backflushing, which direction would I want teh water to flow, driver to passenger, or pass. to driver?

on my 4cyl it seemed like i was always taking the hoses off to flush it...i just a garden hose with a good amount of pressure and blast all the crap out....i did it twice in the same week and it worked fine after that...my 5.0 has yet to do it...not to jinx myself.

so which direction do I want to flush?
Garden Hose in the passenger-sidehose or the drivers sdie tube?

i did it both ways a couple times....just to loosen it up. make sure you stand clear or sheild yourself or you will get wet....i learned from experience. try to get something that will completely block the hole that your spraying into. i just used a spraying attachment and it worked great

i did it all the way back at the core itself....i didnt do it through the hosing at all....it would prob work though i guess. the firewall was simple for me....
