So... my mom calls me and says "I'm tired of looking at this old car in my barn; get rid of it, or I will."
It's not worth restoring... it's got no wheels.. (Spindles gone.. rear end gone).. the motor is apart... hasn't been driven in 10 years...

first thing I would do is crawl under it and see what is left of the floorboards, frame, etc., before you start tearing into it. Also. will the motor even turn over?

I've never seen a car covered with that much dust and cobwebs before. Good luck with the build and please keep us posted.

Do even the budget 5-lug if you can swing it. You'll be glad that you did when wheel selection comes up.

There's no way that I'd spend money on the pre-87 4-lug struts. Get the 87+ when it comes time. If I recall, you just have to cut shims for them. Someone will probably remember the specifics.

Do your thing man!!! Looks like a lot of work but when you get some feet underneath it,. it will start to come together. Then you can wash the darn thing to see what color it is at least!

This Rustang project will actually be a good car. It's been in a covered parking area for 10 years, it has 80k original miles on the vehicle. I bought it right out of high school... my mom borrowed the car, went around a corner too fast, and hit the rear tire on a curb, breaking the axle. I tore the engine apart to put new heads on only to find the flat top pistons would not accept the heads. For 10 years, it sat with no rear end, and no motor... it's parts have been robbed for other mustangs... and now.. they are coming back. :)

I've already got spindles from an 87 I'm using. I've got brand new struts for it (with shims) so I'm good to go. 4 lugs don't have the rim options, but I'm going for a stock look, so rims are no biggie. I think having rear discs and 3.73s is more important than 5 lugs.... she came with 2.73s so it will be a big improvement.

I'm putting the 87+ Spindles/rotors in, so with an upgraded master cylinder , callipers, and rear discs...she'll be stopping much better than she did in 1986.

This is what I did this weekend:
Here is that TurboCoupe rear all sand-blasted and painted:

Plans for the car:

I have a:
MAF conversion.
Custom Heads: (Ported E7TE with 351 valves)
Chinese copy of the Performer RPM intake
ASP underdrives
1987 LongBlock
T5 Borg Warner

I've been into Jeeps and off-roading... I wrecked my 1998 Vert a few years ago and I figure it's time to have some power again...

Great project! Id suggest tossing the underdrive pullies. The risk isn't worth the reward as far as I see it. I have a huge radiator, huge fans, but sitting at an idle over 5 minutes, it starts to heat up because the water just doesn't circulate.

Hopefully you don't live in CA. The Edelbrock Performer intake is no longer CARB legal... :bang:

Not sure about the Chinese version though...
