its absolutly HUGE! outside to outside is 28 X 18 lol. I belive the core is 24 X 14. (no it wont fit lol....we will have to do some modifying to both the car and the inlet positions)

Now basically you want AS BIG OF AN IC AS YOU CAN GET! Why?

Well the bigger your IC is, the more heat it pulls from the incoming intake air...dropping its temperature. In FI cars, this is a HUGE deal for power. Notice people spraying N20 on their small ICs to cool them, and some gain 50+HP. The cooler the air gets, the denser it gets....and at say 8PSI, thats ALOT more air it can cram in the cylinders.

This GREATLY reduces the risk of detonation (80* air going into the cylinders vs 200* air) and you can add even more timing...making even more power. (in our cars that also means the IAT wont be pulling much timing)

If your S/Cd right now, i highly suggest the use of an IC. Its easier of your engine componets, and your car will be less prone to over heating (or coolant temperature rises in general) durring WOT blasts.

One extra thing is that you SHOULD get a dyno tune after you add your IC....I wouldnt go WOT until you get it tuned. And if your running 8PSI before the IC, change out to a 10PSI pully after the IC to maintain your 8PSI, as the IC will normally cause a boost loss of around 2 PSI.
EVEN THOUGH it looses 2 PSI, it will still make more HP if you keep the pulley the same (8PSI ICd > 10PSI non ICd). But if you swap the pully to get it back to 10 lets say...your going to see huge gains.

I bought this IC off ebay for $630 shipped....less than half what MPH charges for the paxton IC that IS smaller than this one. ($1400) I personally wouldnt reccomend this particular IC to any as it will not fit (28inches...only 27 inches of room lol) and will require extencive modifcation to both your car and the IC to make it work. But since we are building everything and will have the car tore apart, we are going to make it work (ha, we have to...I didnt pay $630 for nothing).

So I suggest you lurk on Ebay and find something with a core in the range of 20 X 12-14. Mine is a dual inlet (2.5 inlets and single 3.5 outlet) so it takes more room than a normal one. The top of the core is going to block 80% of the upper grill opening and the bottom (core) is going to take up 90-100% of the lower opening. Anyways $1400 for an intercooler is crazy IMO...if you have some skillz or know someone that does, do it yourself/help and save a TON of money .

werd. i mean, weve all seen fast and furious and know a intercooler is the most important part of a 10 second ride.

nah seriously its not always about size of the IC. coming from the dsm world, alot of the smaller 1g(fmic's to fit the front of a 90-94 eclipse/talon/laser) are just as good(some better) than those double the size for the 2g's(95-99 eclipse/talon). its all about the airflow and pressure drop.

a higher airflow means air spends less time in the IC meaning it doesnt get cooled as much, upside is you get more airflow to the motor.

a higher pressure drop means air is staying inside the IC longer and heat is getting exhanged more, but downside meaning your airflow is being hindered.

usually bar/plate designs flow more air with less drop, and tube/fin designs flow less with more drop. or maybe its vice-a-versa. its been a while since i was into that stuff.

most guys ran a decent fmic and then backed up that with a sneaky pete nitrous setup(50shot for cooling and spool purposes), or meth/h2o/alchy injection to cool the air even more.

edit:

i just read your post and just realized im just backing you up

but umm, are you going twin turbo or something? dual inlet to single outlet........i cant wait to see the end product....

^ Yep..twin 57s. So I wanted as much IC as I could get.

Generally the bigger the better...but i guess if you buy a huge piece of crap IC....a smaller better made one can do more for you lol. I was just keeping it general, as I know that just about anything is possable haha.

Turbo charged? Man you keep changing your plans. first it was turbo then na then kb then na now back to turbo....
Your going to make me keep watching your build.
Are you making the kit yourself? IF so where are you getting the manifolds from? what style system are you going with.

EDIT** adn give me your cams

yeah hotmustang, to make this more of a tech thread - do high lift cams work well in conjunction with a turbo setup? I've read various posts in the 5.0 forums about the stock cam working best for turbo, but blowers will benefit from the aftermarket cam - is the same true for the 4.6? If so, will you be swapping your cams for stock PI cams?

Well im going to be the test dummy and see how these cams work with turbos. In theory they shouldnt work well at all, as the high overlap SHOULD let alot of boost staright out of the exhaust (heh helps emmesions lol) .

We are building our own headers SHould be fun lol. I have all the piping on the way, here for the whole setup.

IC weighs 25#s...not too bad IMO lol.

Mazda ill be selling my LTs...probably $400 shipped (depending on where). Look almost perfect...only had them in for a few months lol.

Yea adrenln im VERY picky about weight too...but there really isnt much I can do, im going to adding about 150+ #s. But thats ok as the car weighs 3250 with a full tank of gas now...so probably closer to 3400 when im done. Lot better than a 3700# cobra though .

Basically I have a stock frontend (- shocks) to sell, LTs, stock front springs, stock PI cams, stock intake piping W/ K&N, stock TB, stock plenum (good for porting), and a JLT RAI with filter. LOL oh yea and a perfect condition stock silver hood with scoop....pretty crazy lol.
