Got the cobra back from the gear swap. 3.27 to 4.10s. Thid difference is night and day :nice: Then got home and installed the CAI.. easy bolt on my ass :damnit: After about an hour of trying to get the thing in, short of a miracle, it finally came together. Took it for another spin, this time taking it to 5k. Love chirping it in second at 4k. I cant wait to get my shifter and MT's and take it to the track. Really hoping for some good times.

ANy pointers would be appreciated on ideal launch rpm for said mods on drag radials. I know i will be spinning bad in first the first time I go out there again.

if you are using MT DR's you shouldn't spin much...they hook pretty good for DR's without much of a burnout needed really...

I'd try launching at 3000 and progressively add 500rpm until it nets you the best 60' times withough spinning...you could probably go to 4500 pretty easlily and not have it spin much...

ill try that.. although i was thinking i should be launching lower than i normally do with the 4.10s? or maybe that was on street tires...

well the DRs dont get here till the 3rd week. Like anything else, trial and error will be the best way to learn. I do wish they get here sooner. :(

4.10 good choice. My 96 has 4.10, and my 97 has 3.73..it is cool to have the two cars with different gears, but 3.73's don't get the car moving as well, and I still had to shift into 4th in the quarter mile.

96 exhaust 4.10..before blower 13.54@106MPH
97 exhaust 3.73..no blower.......14.00 @100MPH

I have never heard of anybody snapping axle tubes in an 8.8 rear end. The only reason you need to weld your axle tubes is if you are running 9's or better.

You're going to end up snapping the axle tubes with DR's with the 4.10's. My suggestion would be to get them welded.

Unless you're putting more than 500hp to the rear wheels I wouldn't bother welding the tubes, unless you have the axle housing out of the car and torn apart. Torque boxes though are a different story.

As for launching on the M/T Et Street Radials ( NOTE: This is at the track) Start out as high as possible and work your way down(as reccomended by M/T) I started out with the tire pressure at 18 psi (M/T recommends 12-16psi, but I have a vert so I figured with the extra weight I'd start out a little higher) did a 4-5 second burnout, and launched at 3,500. No good- 60' time was 2.10. I then dropped to 16 psi, same burnout time, but launched at 4,000. This time I got a 1.99 60'. The next 2 times up ( I was rushed on my 4th pass 'cause I change classes and I had to hot lap back to the pits so I had no time for a tire pressure adjustment) I dropped down to 13 psi did a shorter 3-4 second burnout and launched at 5K. My third pass I netted a 1.96 60' and my 4th pass (hot lapped) netted a 1.97 60'. My fifth (and final pass Red Lights Suck :bang: ) I dropped down to 12 psi and launched at 5K again. This time I got a lousy 2.28 60'. Although I think it really was more me seeing the red light come on and not really trying after that than it was the difference in the tire pressure that made my 60' time slower. Not sure, but I plan on going to the track later on in the year when it cools down some more to get some more realistic times.

Hey SVT32VDOHC, Did you figure out how much you want for that v-6 bumper yet, And any leads on a 99-04 v-6 wingless deck lid for me ? Also, what about those 245's you were talkin about Saturday at Woodward? How'd that video of my car turn out coming home Saturday? Don't erase it, I want to see it. Talked to Trick 95 today and he told me he registered you, Aaron and himself for Mustang Alley. :nice: He also said something about going to Woodward again this Saturday. if I don't have to work, I'll go.

I did not think so either, I have a friend who has a 99 cobra with 4.10s and dr and is running fine without having to weld the tubes.

SO friday i went and I could not pull anything under a 15.0 to save my life (alt. @ 4000 ft) :( I was pretty upset but I know street tires were the death of me. I launched from idle to 2200 (made about 10 runs that night), and then tried it in second gear(although i was launching too low i think @ 3500).. Nothing. looked at the videos and just spun all thru first gear and part of second.

Plus my street tires are about a year old... damn last weekend was no good. I was embarassing  Hopefully i get to redeem myself in 2 weeks. tires ship out the 12th. DAMN YOU SUMMIT!!!

Gt Jay

Hey Jay, its Matt, I didn't get your post till now (Sunday Morning)...Woodward Saturday night sucked...too many cops..telling everybody everywhere to leave, and then it started raining, the ride hope was fun on bald Nittos in the rain!! Anyways, yeah I got four 245-45-R17 BFG KDWS like brand new, I'd like to sell the set, but if you want two that might not be a problem. Andy did sign us up for the Mustang Alley..umm today I signed my buddy Wayne up, but he isn't getting back from the Marines until 12:00 noon the day of the cruise..You can still register their are only 362 spots out of 500 taken. As far as the wingless lid goes, I will look on Monday, and the bumper...you jsut let me know what you want to spend. I don't get too many calls for V-6 rears....Hit me up on the 2-way if you want to know anything else...Later

No, I wouldn't say you suck, I notcied you are running E/T streets..that means you are hooking up a lot harder than I am, so your RPMS are lower through the first few gears. I am spinning raising RPM's much faster, so thats why I must have to shift to fourth....I am going to the track today, it's much cooler out, so hopefully the 97 will like RPMs above 5,800 this time....mid 13's...here I come...but I'll settle for high 13's....hehe

I want all 4 tires Matt, if the price is right. :D

Also, as far as the v-6 rear bumper and deck lid goes, we'll talk about that at Woodward this weekend. I'm in no hurry, but it would be to get them to go along with my winter project of Basanni headers, O/R X-pipe, Flow's and dumps and Cams. :nice:

GT JAY, your car will sound great with that set up, the fumes from the dumps might get a little stinky in the car ,but I'm not positive,..the converters will help if you decide to keep them. See you on Woodward man!!

actually i was not running on ET streets. just regular street tires, yokohama avs'. First week i was there my best was a 15.0 (also this is at 4000 ft, so im not really THAT slow lol). Next week i went back and finally ran a 14.7 (which is about what i ran pre gears) normal driving, no launch at all. I figured I couldnt go anwywhere with the tires spinning all thru first and second so why bother. It pulls way harder though i love it :nice: I am also having to shift into 4th no so i dont know. I will have to see when the tires come in. Still on backorder, almost a month now. :(

ShakeandBake... that took me the longest as well.. Also, is it just me or does the pipe from the MAF up not fit on the tb easy  anyway, at least its done now. never wish to have to do it again :rlaugh: Also thinking about removing the corner lights... wonder if that helps a bit
