ty and sporadic so apologies for not quickly replying..I posted the info you are asking about. I did start the car with the belt off and was happy to find that it is not the starter or distributer, I did spin all the pulleys and they are fine..I then reinstalled the serp belt and lo and behold no more screeching! I think I but the belt on backwards, with the outer edge now being on the inside edge..it's been nice and quiet since! I wanted to post my problem and unusual fix in this old thread in case someone does a search and hope it helps.
