I've got an 01 auto GT with a borla stinger catback and o/r x pipe.

I've been fortunate enough to recently run into a lot of cash. My buddy has got an "average" Supra TT. I know they make some serious power. I want to know what is the best way to stay competetive with him. I figure I'd need close to 600+ rwhp. This is how I hope to get there, let me know what you guys think:

Forge motor with lower compression pistons(rods, crankshaft???), boost with Novi 2000, do fuel upgrades, install blower cams. Crank up boost and hope that tranny, differential, and driveshaft can take the power.

I hope that I would be able to get to 600 rwhp with the stock plastic intake and heads. Of course, I would get it tuned by a professional. Is this setup realistic???? Has it been done before?

Call Tim at modular ford powerhouse in Atlanta, GA. He's built / tuned a few of the 600+ monster mustangs running around here!

IMO, if you're going to aim for 600, I'd look into building the rest of the car as well. You'd need at least 31 splines, upper/lower control arms, torque boxes welded, the trans will go pretty quick, but the clutch will go quicker.

I've talked w/ Tim about getting my car up to that level, and it's not a cheap move. The last thing you want is a 600 hp beast that's stuck in the garage broken all the time.

1.) Don't even mess with a centrifugal supercharger. Get a roots blower like Kenne Bell in the above link.

2.) Your tranny won't hold up for long with over 600 HP, The rear-end's lifespan is questionable.

3.) You might want to split up some of your cash for suspension unless you already have it. There's almost nothing more dangerous than a car with way more power than its suspension can handle.

I would recommend selling whatever car you have now and getting an 04 Cobra. Start with that as your base car to achieve 600+ rwhp.

My friend (local cop in town) has an 02 GT with 560rwhp but he has spent about $28k in engine & suspension (+ labor) work and has ONLY iterior appearance modifications (so hardly ANY of that 28k was spent on useless apperanace mods). So a 32V DOHC Cobra is a better platform to mod if you have the cash.

After you get an 04 Cobra. I would recommend the Kenne Bell as well, upgraded pulleys, port/polish, exhaust, gears, stage 2 Cams, chip, tune...you'd be at 600hp in no time :D

How much power can the 4r70w auto tranny handle? I've seen a few members around here that have put 600+ hp through it (granted with oil coolers, flexplates, etc).

if your buddys Supra has near 600rwhp, it isn't average.
It is around here... 600HP for a Supra is the norm. 800-1000HP isn't rare for local Dallas Supras. Powerhouse Racing turned them out all day long, but Powerhouse isn't around anymore. The worst whippings I've ever taken in any of my cars came from a couple of those Supra's. If you've never seen a 850RWHP Supra run from a 55mph punch you are missing out.

call MPH. I remeber seing a dyno sheet on a car with stock heads at around the 600hp level. I think it may have been a novi 2000. I know they have a twin turbo setup now as well.

for 600hp you will need a built tranny and rear no question if you plan on making the car hook up. if you ever ran slicks with 600hp on the stock tranny and rear it would die.

Just curious, but what posses you to say something like that? Are you just going with the flow because you are mesmerized by the KB hype like a lot of others are, or have you any personal experience to back your reasoning? Other than that fact you don't know a roots blower from a twin screw, why would you consider a Centrifugal kit a waste of money? Yeah, the KB’s make stump pulling low end torque and don’t fall off up top like the traditional roots blowers do, but please don’t confuse the feeling of healthy bottom end “torque” for a superior ability to make power. You do realize that the fastest supercharged cars in the world still use Centrifugal blowers, right? They may feel a little more subtle on the bottom end, but I'll pit a hard spun Novi 2000 or T-trim after the first couple hundred feet against a KB 1.7L or 2.2L any day of the week. Hell, even the new 2.4L has yet to prove itself amongst the masses. Gotta love blanketed statements.

600whp? You are asking quite a bit. But the old saying goes how much HP do you want? How much money do you have? If you take it to a shop, 600whp will cost you $12k. Do it yourself: a 2003+ Cobra crate motor, and $3000 in upgrades, including your suspension, transmission and slicks. But if it's down to a race, once you have all that installed. I hope you practiced your launches, your shifts, and you pedal magic. Because when that light turns green, the DRIVER makes the difference.
